addedGetting straight to the point: Patch 1.5.4 is going to be Wildgate’s last big patch for a while. Thanks to player feedback, we added a ton of changes and improvements since launch: free trial, new prospector, new PvE oriented game modes like Treasure Hunt, free promotions on Epic Game Store, joining Game Pass, and more. Despite all our attempts to bring new and more players into the game, Wildgate hasn’t found a large enough audience to sustain ongoing development.
changedWildgate is not going away. We’re proud of the game and the community that has grown around it. Wildgate will continue to receive occasional updates like bug fixes, balance updates, and small events, activations or rewards that generally repurpose existing content. And new players will still be able to buy the game on all platforms (Steam, EGS, Xbox, and PS) – and we plan on participating in as many sales and discounts as we can.
added1 Year Anniversary: we’ll celebrate 365 days of space crimes; there will be sprays, a new title, and some other new items in the store
changedMode Selection: a revamped experience will replace our current game mode selection flow (e.g. matchmaking); this change will surface additional information for you to better understand what games you can jump right into and play
addedCustom Games: we’re adding additional player-controlled options for game modes
changedOngoing Live Activations: Hallowed Beyond and Winter Festival will still be available as seasonal events

We’re working on our next patch, coming in July, but we’re going to handle this one differently.

Getting straight to the point: Patch 1.5.4 is going to be Wildgate’s last big patch for a while.

However —

Wildgate is not going away.

Which is why the Patch 1.5.4 includes features that ensure you can keep playing:

  • 1 Year Anniversarywe’ll celebrate 365 days of space crimes; there will be sprays, a new title, and some other new items in the store
  • Mode Selection: a revamped experience will replace our current game mode selection flow (e.g. matchmaking); this change will surface additional information for you to better understand what games you can jump right into and play

  • Custom Games: we’re adding additional player-controlled options for game modes

  • Ongoing Live ActivationsHallowed Beyond and Winter Festival will still be available as seasonal events
  • Bug and balance fixes

So… what’s next?

  • After Patch 1.5.4, a small core team will keep an eye on servers

  • Community management and player support for the game will be reduced, but the core team will continue to review incoming tickets

  • We’re working on handing the Discord over to the community so you can keep the party going; more on that soon

  • I’m going to start pulling back my office hours and eventually disappear into the bushes by the end of July

  • Everyone at Moonshot will be focused on R&D projects (which we’re excited about but can’t talk about yet)

The studio will be on summer break next week and I’m taking a little bit more time off before the next patch. I wanted to share this news with you now so that 1) our absence isn’t mysterious and 2) you know what to expect in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, we’re still here to party with you. More info about the patch and 1 year anniversary festivities coming soon.

Thanks for reading.

Dustin
