Wild West Pioneers changes
Howdy, partners!
There's an order of things when it comes to settling on the frontier. A roof over your head, food on the table, and water nearby. But once you have your fundamentals down, different needs will start to pop up, ones that go beyond mere survival.
Diaries and letters from frontier communities of the 1850s tell a consistent story. Once the immediate dangers of starvation and exposure passed, settlers began asking for things that had nothing to do with staying alive. A church for Sunday worship. A saloon to unwind after a long week. A fence to mark where home began.
County records from early Kansas townships show petitions for community buildings arriving almost as soon as the harvest was secured.
In Wild West Pioneers, you will encounter the very same thing. After your settler's basic needs are met, the real work of building a community begins. Every house, once its occupants have water, food, and shelter, will eventually have some kind of personal desire: a Whim.
A Whim can be almost anything. Some are modest: a cat for company, a fence around the yard. Others run deeper, a visit to the saloon, a Sunday in church, or an evening of shenanigans at the brothel. Some Whims will be fulfilled naturally as your town grows. Others will need your direct attention.
Every fulfilled Whim raises satisfaction in that house. And the more you tend to your settlers' wishes, the more your town becomes somewhere worth staying.
On the frontier, it was never just the resources that made a town last. It was everything that made life worth living that made the people stay. Listen to your settlers, and you will have a far better chance of turning a handful of tents into a prospering and happy town.
