Who Do Voodoo changes
From the very start, the game had a touch of cute but creepy, and the voodoo theme made that feeling even stronger. Once we had settled on the theme and decided that the voodoo doll would represent the player, it was time to figure out what it should look like.
In Who Do Voodoo, you can be either a Good Voodoo or a Bad Voodoo, but other players do not know which side you are on. That meant our goal was to create a single character design that could represent both sides equally well.
We kept our cute but creepy motto in mind throughout the process. We wanted a design that stayed right on that line, something a little unsettling yet irresistibly charming.
With these ideas in mind, we left the office, found a cozy spot in our building’s lobby, and started brainstorming possible character designs together. After dozens of quick sketches, re-draws, and debates, The Voodoo was born, a slightly chubby, big-headed doll with a delightfully vacant expression that became the face of our game. We are sharing here and on our discord that some of the earlier concept art so you can see how The Voodoo evolved from our first sketches to the final design. At launch, there will be up to 16 color options and plenty of cosmetics so you can customize your own voodoo doll to match your style.
So, what do you think? Does The Voodoo look more cute or more creepy?
