Whispers in the Moss changes
Now that Whispers in the Moss has been out for a few days, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the fantastic reception!
Releasing a game with such eccentric aesthetics in 2024 was a bit of a gamble, but based on your reviews, I'm thrilled to see how warmly the style has been received. Your positive feedback on the gameplay is particularly gratifying, as it was a major focus during the latter stages of development.
I've compiled some of my favorite quotes from your reviews so far. We still need more reviews, so I hope everyone who picks up the game can take a moment to share their thoughts too.
"My first thoughts immediately point to the Dwarf Fortress intro but as a full game. A huge point of the charm is exploring this text art world. ... An excellent accompanying soundtrack as well."(Steam Review / Healthycheekums)
"This game is an absolute gem - the ANSI interface is well crafted and a real throwback to the good old days of the 1990's but at the same time the music, gameplay and pacing nail the mid 90's sprite JRPG feel."(Steam Review / Casey Jones)
"First ANSI art JRPG I've seen, and quite possibly the first one, full stop. It's obviously a labor of love, and if you are or were ever into textmode games, you will get a kick out of this. Equal parts ZZT, Zelda, Questron, Final Fantasy IV and GORILLA.BAS."(Steam Review / 1 health)
"I think this is the first game in a while to just hit it off so flawlessly on so many levels."(Steam Review / sniffing.CVM)
"Uncultured Games have outdone themselves with new release Whispers in the Moss. The ANSI/ASCII + text UI style is reminiscent of generational games but absolutely impressive in its execution. The scope of the game is just as impressive."(Steam Review / CSH Picone)
"An enchanting journey through ethereal landscapes, filled with challenging puzzles, strategic turn-based combat, and an original, captivating soundtrack."(Steam Curator Review / Danmaku Disciples)
"This lil baby oscillates between pixel art masterpiece and a truly fun turn-based RPG. A real crunched out labor of love; so many detailed aspects, sweet dungeon-y jams...and a pretty weird world..!"(Steam Curator Review / ziggy_'s gaming garage)
"Turn based retro JRPG with a very unique art! Very nostalgic, reminds me of games I used to play as a kid. I think the music is heavily inspired by games like Live a Live, KH and RH, really cool!"(Steam Curator Review / Visual Novel & JRPG's Solace)
All the best, Tapio / Uncultured Games
