Wayward Strand changes
May 20th is the 10th annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day! To celebrate, we're announcing that the wonderful Cameron Hopkinson (they/them) is providing accessibility consultation and advice for Wayward Strand, and that we will be hosting a live-stream where Cameron and Maize Wallin (they/them) discuss accessibility in Wayward Strand, and in indie games generally. The stream will begin at May 20th 10:00 pm PT / May 21st 3:00 pm AEST
Having a focus on accessibility during game design and development is incredibly important - it reduces barriers to your experience for so many players. For the other game makers out there, here are a few links to some really useful resources:
http://gameaccessibilityguidelines.com - this is an list of accessibility feature and improvements for games, grouped by ease-of-implementation! It's an incredibly useful resource - thanks so much to all the accessibility experts that put it together.
https://www.accessunlocked.games - this is a collective that Cameron is a part of, whose goal is to put a spotlight on accessibility, both in games and in game development, helping disabled developers connect to each other.
https://twitter.com/ga_conf The Games Accessibility Conference is a regular event including talks and meetups around accessibility in games. Many talks from previous events are accessible on their Youtube channel; it's a treasure trove of information.
Look forward to more info from us on accessibility in Wayward Strand, and if you have accessibility needs and played the demo, or are keen to play Wayward Strand, reach out and let us know what accessibility options/considerations would have the most impact for you!
