About the Agent

Lance Ridder never believed he was cut out for military service. But in his youth, he became fascinated with officers’ memoirs. The stories of soldiers from the past opened up a world of honor and brotherhood to him, a world without social inequality — the complete opposite of the poor outskirts where he grew up. In the end, as soon as he came of age, Lance ran off to join the army, escaping his family’s poverty.
