Wardens of Wen changes
Hail, Wardens! Thank you everyone for the feedback, bug reports and just general awesomeness. I have addressed a good amount of the things pointed out to me thus far, as well as fixing some things I discovered along the way.
This brings Wardens of Wen to v0.9.23.
This update cycle focused on UI cleanup, onboarding improvements, inventory safety, combat fixes, and a broad pass on the New Game and Talent Tree screens.
Highlights
Locked Wardens can now be inspected before unlock, including stats, biography, preview, and unlock requirements. - Kalibros guidance has been expanded with better one-time warnings, boss callouts, and talent reminders. - The New Game screen received multiple fixes, including Infinite-mode text overflow, detail clipping, panel collapse, and preview sizing. - The Talent Tree was rebuilt into a more compact layout with a wider tree view, a single left sidebar, and proper centered positioning. - Unsocketing now uses a confirmation popup and correctly returns socketed gems while handling destructive actions more safely. - Sally, Verdaxis, and related boss interactions received several combat and damage-type fixes. - A lives counter was added to the HUD and then refined for better accuracy and readability. - Level-up damage upgrades are now split into separate Physical and Magic options. - Fixed a pathing issue on the Map.
UI / UX
Removed dialogue mood labels from response options. - Improved locked-Warden selection flow in Character Select. - Disabled `Start Run` when a locked Warden is selected. - Fixed the locked-Warden Kalibros warning so it actually appears in Character Select. - Reworked the Talent Tree overlay to use space more efficiently. - Merged Champion and Details into a single left sidebar in the Talent Tree. - Fixed the Talent Tree window anchoring to the top-left; it now centers correctly. - Improved New Game layout stability and readability across multiple passes.
Gameplay / Balance
Split the old shared damage level-up card into separate `+Physical Damage` and `+Magic Damage` cards. - Reduced `Immortal` duration from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. - Limited `Kaboom` to one drop per wave. - `Kaboom` no longer affects the Vampire Lord, dragons, or dragon pylons. - Tightened Sally's Holy Smite effective radius.
Combat Fixes
Sally’s primary Holy attacks now behave correctly against Verdaxis and obelisks. - Holy damage from Sally now displays the correct color and typing. - Fixed Sally’s solo revive exploit. - Fixed paused runs still processing enemy unstuck teleports. - Fixed stale outdoor damage numbers lingering after entering interiors. - Fixed enemy unstuck teleports landing on the player inside spawn zones.
Inventory / Items
Unsocketing now destroys the host item and returns the gems. - Added an unsocket confirmation popup before destructive removal. - Fixed multi-socket unsocket recovery so all gems are returned correctly. - Cleaned up inventory details text wrapping and action row spacing.
Map
Fixed an area of the Map where the player could walk through an area that was meant to have collision.
Onboarding / Guidance
Added first-time guidance for Verdaxis, Baron Von Dreadmoor, and other late-run threats. - Tutorial prompts now better match the player’s active input method. - Added a one-time Kalibros reminder when carrying unspent talent points across multiple cleared waves.
Options / Integrations
Discord will no longer continue to attempt to connect if you decline the first time. - `Link Now` in Options to manually link Discord at a later time.
