I wanted to take a moment to share some updates on our journey to Steam. The team has been working hard to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for all of you.
Why we pushed the launch date
We are fully committed to ensuring that the Steam launch provides a great experience for every Commander. A major part of this is finishing the work on a new user experience (NUX) designed to help new Commanders get into the game. What we have now is an early framework to guide players through the first parts of the game. We want to see how well that does in preparing players and then we will add or adjust content to fit. Bottom line, we wanted to take the extra time to ensure we get things right; it’s better to launch when we’re confident the foundation is solid than to rush a release that doesn't meet our standards.
What is happening with Facebook and why we are going to Steam
As time marches on we are focusing our efforts on providing a stable, high-performance environment for the game. We have a lot of experience with browser gaming, and we know it comes with unique challenges, particularly regarding browser compatibility and caching. Moving to Steam allows us to overcome these limitations and provide a more stable client with better performance expectations.
I want to be clear: if you prefer to continue playing outside of Steam, Kixeye.com remains a fully supported option, where gold continues to be cheaper. If you have historically experienced account issues on that platform, we encourage you to reach out to our support team now so we can get ahead of any problems before the migration.
In addition, we are preparing for a major change at the end of this year. On September 30, 2026 Facebook Web Gaming is shutting down. Because we have the game available on Kixeye.com this isn’t a catastrophic situation for War Commander, but it does provide us with another reason for why we are launching on Steam.
What you can expect (The Benefits)
I want to manage expectations a bit; we aren’t aiming to over-hype the launch. Our goal is to deliver a stable, reliable client that meets our performance goals. That said, we are seeing some immediate gains and we have seen:
Better, more stable frame rates
Faster game loading and asset caching
Better control of audio playback and new music
Improved input capture and more consistent keyboard controls
System Requirements
We have optimized the client to ensure that players with even lower-end systems can still enjoy a solid, responsive experience. We are confident that if you can run the web game, then the desktop client will be faster and smoother for you. We suggest the following as a minimum specification:
OS: Windows, Mac (Linux to come if able)
Processor: Dual Core 1.8GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: DX9 (shader model 2.0) capabilities
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 2 GB available space
Sound Card: Any compatible with OS
Wishlist Goal: Help us reach the target!
We are pushing hard to hit our wishlist goal of 5,000 additions! The extra two weeks of runway gives us more time to reach this milestone, and we have a fantastic set of rewards planned for the entire community if we hit the mark. Every wishlist addition helps— make sure to spread the word to your alliance members.
A note to our current Commanders
We aren't forgetting about you! While we have some exciting plans coming down the line, we want to keep the focus on our current gameplay first. As a start, we are excited to roll out new audio additions to the game starting next week, so keep an ear out for those changes. We also have listened to the feedback about Strike Ops gameplay and are bringing back Holdout instead. We have a whole roadmap in mind for the early access period but aren’t quite ready to pull the trigger on those items yet. So for now we’ll bring Holdout back while we work with the community to figure out something exciting to replace it. Hang in with us and we look forward to sharing more about what’s coming next as we approach launch.
