Dev Blog: The Hacker

Bonjour! We want to start this blog off with a quick shoutout to normy who created an absolute behemoth of a guide titled: The Workaholic Way: Normy’s Guide to a Perfect Run. normy has more experience than anyone in Walk of Life, so we recommend reading up on his tips if you want to take your game to the next level! Now, onto business. We want to thank all of you for showing such intense interest in choosing the next role and for participating in the elections on Discord. The dust has settled and the next role coming to Walk of Life will be the Hacker!

The Hacker is a rule-breaking scoundrel that relies on cheating the game to get ahead. Armed with a souped up laptop, they can hack into locations to grant them an extra bonus unavailable to other players. For example, hacking into the Job Office will increase the Hacker's salary, while hacking into Clucker's will decrease the prices of the menu items. They can even hack the same location multiple times, stacking the bonuses! Steam post imageThat sounds pretty broken! However, the Hacker must be careful, as every time they hack a location, they increase their heat - the chance that they are busted by the feds at the start of the next round! Hacking too many times in quick succession will increase the chance of getting caught, and losing all accumulated hacking bonuses.

So the heat meter goes up every time the hack action is performed, but it may also go down by laying low. If the Hacker spends a whole round without hacking, their heat will decrease, and the chances of getting caught will eventually be nullified.

Playing safely might be a valid strategy, but to get the most out of the hacker players will have to live dangerously, knowing that they will eventually be caught!

If you like living dangerously, flying closely to the sun, the hacker might just be the role for you! We are still playtesting it but will hopefully get it into your hands very soon!
