changedABOUT THE GAMEA: Veterans: Napoleonic Wars is a real-time strategy game focused on pure tactical combat with thousands of units on the battlefield. There is no base building - the game is entirely about maneuvering, formations, and decisions during the battle itself. We are aiming for a faithful recreation of Napoleon's Italian Campaign of 1796–1797, with deep tactics and historical authenticity at the core.
changedABOUT THE GAMEA: It's the depth of authentic Napoleonic close-combat tactics. Battles unfold the way they historically did - infantry clashing line-vs-line, cavalry charging in waves and punching through broken formations, flanking maneuvers, and disciplined formation work (line, square, column) that genuinely shapes how your troops fight and survive. The combat system runs deep: advanced morale combined with stamina, finite ammunition, platoons led by officers and standard-bearers, and weather and terrain that meaningfully affect the fight. Every troop type brings unique traits and formations. And the scale is real - true thousands-strong battles - all while keeping you in meaningful tactical control.
changedORIGINALITY AND DEVELOPMENTQ: Do you use AI to create the game? How are the art and sound made?
changedORIGINALITY AND DEVELOPMENTA: We do not use generative AI for any content that ships with the game - no models, animations, textures, 2D art, or audio. All visuals are made by real artists. For example, our 2D unit portraits are hand-drawn, and we have been sharing process sketches on our social media so you can see how a portrait develops from rough draft to final piece. Music and sound effects are made the same way - by real people, not AI. We hope to share more of the craft behind the game with our community in different ways further down the line - stay tuned.
changedORIGINALITY AND DEVELOPMENTA: No. Veterans: Napoleonic Wars is built from the ground up by our team. The battlefield, the terrain, and the environments are 3D, while units and UI elements use 2D art. Every asset, every animation, and every line of code in the game is original and made specifically for our project. We sometimes get compared to older strategy titles, which is flattering - but our codebase, our assets, and all of our content are our own.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have been getting a lot of questions from the community across Steam, Discord, and other social media platforms. Below are the most common ones, plus a few topics we wanted to share more about ourselves.

ABOUT THE GAME

Q: What kind of game is Veterans: Napoleonic Wars?

A: Veterans: Napoleonic Wars is a real-time strategy game focused on pure tactical combat with thousands of units on the battlefield. There is no base building - the game is entirely about maneuvering, formations, and decisions during the battle itself. We are aiming for a faithful recreation of Napoleon's Italian Campaign of 1796–1797, with deep tactics and historical authenticity at the core.

Q: What makes Veterans: Napoleonic Wars different from other strategy games?

A: It's the depth of authentic Napoleonic close-combat tactics. Battles unfold the way they historically did - infantry clashing line-vs-line, cavalry charging in waves and punching through broken formations, flanking maneuvers, and disciplined formation work (line, square, column) that genuinely shapes how your troops fight and survive. Veterans Napoleonic Wars

ABOUT THE STUDIO

Q: Who is developing this game?

A: We are Tactical Boar, an independent studio and publisher founded in 2025. We are not a spin-off or continuation of any other company - our team of around 30 was put together from scratch, bringing in industry veterans from many different studios and backgrounds.

ORIGINALITY AND DEVELOPMENT

Q: Do you use AI to create the game? How are the art and sound made?

A: We do not use generative AI for any content that ships with the game - no models, animations, textures, 2D art, or audio.

Q: Are you using assets, code, or engines from other games?

A: No.

Q: Where do the in-game maps come from?

A: Each battlefield is a 3D recreation built by our team based on historical terrain and period sources. We sometimes adjust the scale of certain features to keep the battle readable and the gameplay enjoyable, but the geography and key landmarks stay faithful to the real locations.

Q: Will the visual quality (graphics, sound design, animations, effects) improve before launch?

A: Yes. The footage and screenshots we have shared so far come from an in-development build. We are improving something on the game literally every day - work on animations, visual effects, and overall fidelity is in full swing, and the game will go through visual upgrades before our Early Access launch. What you see today is not the final product.

GAMEPLAY AND HISTORICAL AUTHENTICITY

Q: Can I rename commanders or generals?

A: No, commander and officer names are fixed. We want to keep the historical authenticity of the Napoleonic era as intact as possible, so the real figures who led these armies keep their real names in our game.

Q: Can I play as Austria, or other nations like the Ottoman Empire?

A: At launch, you will command the French army. We focused on France because Napoleon's Italian Campaign of 1796–1797 is the heart of the game, and we wanted to give that side of the conflict the depth it deserves. As for other nations, such as the Ottoman Empire, our current focus is the Italian Campaign - but we would love to expand the series to new theaters and factions in the future if the opportunity arises.

PLATFORMS, RELEASE, AND COMMUNITY

Q: Will there be multiplayer?

A: Multiplayer is not part of the initial release plans. Our focus right now is on delivering a deep and polished single-player experience.

Q: Will there be official Mac and Linux support?

A: Mac and Linux support is not planned for our initial release. We know there is an audience for our game on these platforms, but right now we do not have the capacity to properly test and maintain those versions. We plan to revisit Mac and Linux versions after the game has launched.

Q: Will the game be released on consoles?

A: Just like Mac and Linux, console releases are not planned for our initial launch - but consoles are definitely on our list for the future. We would love to bring Veterans: Napoleonic Wars to console players once we have the resources to do it properly.

Q: When is the game coming out?

A: We are targeting an Early Access launch this year. Development is progressing well, and we will continue sharing updates as we get closer to that window.

Q: How can I support the game, give feedback, or ask a question not listed here?

A: The best way to support us is to wishlist Veterans: Napoleonic Wars on Steam. If your question was not answered here, or if you would like to share feedback, join our Discord server or post in the Steam Community Hub. We are active on both and reply to as much as we can.

Thank you to everyone in our community for your interest, your questions, and your support. We will see you on the battlefield, Generals.
