Repeated intro
Hello everyone! Sorry about the awkward silence following our game's release. Many thanks to everyone who showed interest in our project, you guys are the reason why we've decided to push it slightly further than we originally intended.
What changed
- Gameplay
- Performance
- UI and audio
We've taken a short break (after what feels like a 7-month game jam, it was about time), and we've assessed a few improvements that we would like to make during the coming week(s):
Performance. It's nowhere near perfect, and though we don't expect that it'll make a massive difference, we're going to try a few things to make the experience a tad more enjoyable for lower-end devices.
Menus. The settings menu appears to not save the current selection, but it indeed does - there's a visual bug which appears to reset the selection after exiting. We're investigating the issue, and should come up with a fix fairly soon.
Subtitles. We're still missing some during cut-scenes due to the lack of time with our strict deadlines, and thus, we'd like to solve this accessibility issue as soon as possible.
And a few more, smaller fixes. I won't bore you with the details here, but we'd like this experience to be enjoyable for as many people as possible.
I'll take this moment to address a few commonly asked questions :
Q: What is this game? Is it a demo? A: Yes and no. This was originally meant to be a full experience, but we had to cut some corners during development (literally three whole levels). The narration suffered greatly, but we managed to keep various important elements whilst hinting toward a possible story line that would've properly tied everything together. I'll leave it up to your imagination! For the record, this was indeed a school project made by a team of a dozen artists and sound designers. (UQAT & UdeM!)
Q: Who's the monster? A: Now, I don't exactly want to spoil the game! Figuring that out is part of the fun. But here's a hint - her name is Melody, not Daddy LongLegs!
Q: Is VR a planned feature? A: We've strongly considered it for a while, but again, the academic nature of the project made it so we had to cut many corners to instead try and provide a polished experience within the required deadlines. We're kinda breaking that rule with the incoming patches, but we can't take this too far.
Q: Is the project going to be further developed? A: As previously mentioned, we can't take development too far since most of the team is going to be disbanded from this point onward. This has been a truly amazing experience, but most of us are now hunting for actual professional jobs, this project marking the end of our Bachelor's degree. I'm sorry to say, any possible continuation is going to have to be abandoned.
