Repeated intro

Hey all! Jon here with your July update! July was an incredibly special month. We hit the 1 year anniversary of development! I also took a couple of very quick breaks to make two tiny side games (split//fire and Wake up Todd) to cleanse the palette, but the bulk of the month was spent polishing the demo, hunting down bugs, and adding some awesome new mechanics.

Here is a look at what was built this month:

Demo Release & Milestones

  • 1 Year Anniversary! July 11th marked exactly one year since I started building this game.

  • Demo Uploaded: The alpha demo build is officially uploaded and playable!

  • Side Projects: Took a short break and built a small arcade shooter (split//fire) as a portfolio piece, and finished a side project called Wake up Todd.

New Systems & Mechanics

  • Special SightAdded a new Special Sight hotkey and feature (a red scan mode) to uncover secrets.
  • Bio EditingStarted building out a brand new Bio Editing mechanic, complete with its own store, NPC, and theme.
  • Enemy QTEsAdded Quick Time Event (QTE) skills to the enemy skill pools to keep combat highly interactive and keep players on their toes.
  • ATB Gauge UpdatesAdded a new field gauge for turn orders and hooked up ATB interactions to dozens of skills (Sunder, Concussion Slam, Neuro Boost, Memory Leak, and many more).

Combat & Balance

  • Enemy BuffsRaised the agility of every enemy and added Boost Burn and Overclock Drain to most of their skill pools.
  • Gear & Sets: Buffed all armor sets so they feel much better during the early to mid game progression.

  • Skill CategorizationAll skills have now been updated with clear Physical, Digital, or Support icons so you know exactly what you are casting at a glance.
  • Party SynergyFixed the Link Up skill so a party member can use it once per battle, and added charged versions of Sweeping Slice and Frantic Stab.

World Details & Narrative

  • New Sidequests: Started building out the Kessler beatdown sidequest and the Eris sidequest.

  • Banter & LoreWrote and implemented a bunch of new banters, including Gridgrave chats, Pier 19 trash banter, and Mira/Prin conversations. Also added graveyard tombstone lore.
  • CutscenesAdded Kade to the Nova clinic cutscene and implemented an intro for the ice slide puzzle.
  • Gallery UnlocksAdded 7 new narrational picture unlocks for the gallery.

UI & Polish

  • Massive Bug Fix SweepSpent a lot of time doing demo fixes. Cleaned up old character portraits showing up where they shouldn't, fixed UI layering on the socket menu, fixed broken skill tutorials, and stopped the radio quests from glitching.
  • Visuals & AudioAdded new debris weather to all maps, implemented an Alpha splash screen, updated animations for System Reboot and Memory Leak, and added trash opening sound effects to all the trash cans.

I got so much done this month and I'm very happy with the progress I've been making, Thanks for reading and see you all next time!
