Vegelypse changes
Hey, guys!
Unlike the vast majority of beat’em ups, where you usually face human opponents, here you fight a horde of bloodthirsty, mutated vegetables. Enemies are a key part of Vegelypse. After all, they pose a serious threat to the entire human world.
Today, we’ll introduce you to some of them - the vegetables that appeared in our demo a few months ago.
Peas
The first enemies you’ll encounter on your path, and at the same time the most numerous, are mutated Peas. At first slowly hop - but with evolution they can learn to jump higher and bite stronger. In small number should not be a problem but as a horde, they become a huge issue and player will need to use all possible tricks and learn new along the way to try to survive encounter with them.
Peas don’t just appear out of nowhere. Sometimes the player will come across pea pods where the peas mature before eventually pouring out in a whole swarm to make life miserable. So if you don't want to be flouded with those green rascals, you’ll need to run to destroy those Pods - but that won’t be as easy as you think, as with adaptation they found the way to protect itself using huge, full of thorns and nasty vines.
Tomatoes
In both appearance and movement, they resemble Peas. Unlike Peas, however, they are much more agile and don’t need to stand directly next to an opponent to strike - they can try to sink their teeth in by leaping toward the target from any position. But that’s not all, because their attack set is broader. One defensive tactic won’t work here.
As if that weren’t enough, any type of Tomatoes, regardless of size, can also hurt the player after death. That’s because, unlike Peas, they don’t decompose - they explode, damaging everyone caught within the blast radius. This can be used as a weapon against other hordes if the player plays it right.
It’s worth mentioning one important thing here: every opponent evolves and adapts during the game, which changes their behavior. This is also case with the Tomatoes - small tomatoes are almost identical to peas at the beginning, but over time they unlock new abilities, thereby expanding their tactics and range of attacks.
Carrots
All Carrots are deeply connected to the ground. Literally. They move underground, burrowing through the soil and leaving holes behind - holes the player can fall into, or ones enemies can jump out of. Thanks to their stronger root system, they are often stuck in one specific place, which allows them to grab the opponent and throw them, or perform an overhead strike.
Just because Carrots stay in place, so they are less mobile, it doesn’t makes them easier to approach and destroy. They have pretty fast bite and can shoot with they spiky seeds to reach player from across the map. Also when Cactis stay to close to them, they can quickly descend undergorund to find new comfy spot to spread terror. Players will need to use a lot of movement and tacticts to take them down.
However, keep in mind that this isn't the only form this vegetable takes. Its next evolution is much more dangerous - if only because it is no longer confined to the ground. Plus, they still have very powerful bites and can shoot seeds to hit players even from long distances.
These are the basic enemies you could see in our demo. But believe us, that’s not all. For the game, we’ve created a whole host of monstrous vegetables, ready to tear Cacti - and all of humanity - to pieces.
We hope to introduce the whole bunch to you soon.
In the meantime, take care, and see you next time!
