Usurper Reborn v0.65.0 - "Countdown"
The first patch on the road to 1.0. The focus this time: get new players into the game fast, make the deep dungeon dangerous again, fix a big stack of player-reported bugs, and translate a lot more of the world into Spanish, French, Italian, and Hungarian. (The game is still in beta, so the title screen banner stays for now.)
New Player Experience
Quick Start character creation. Right after you choose a name you now get a Quick Start option: pick one of three ready-made heroes (Human Warrior, Elf Magician, or Dwarf Cleric) and your gender, and you are adventuring in under a minute. Everything else is set to sensible defaults that you can change any time under Preferences. Quick Start also lets you back out at any step and tells you clearly if you mistype, instead of guessing for you. Prefer the deep dive? Full Custom creation is unchanged.
Next-step hints on Main Street. A short one-line pointer now shows your next objective right on the town screen, so you always know where to go next.
The Adventurer's Journal (/journal). A single command that summarizes where you are in the story, your active quests, what is in progress, and a recommended next step.
Combat and Balance
Late-game monsters are dangerous again. Past floor 30, well-geared characters had become nearly impossible to hit, so the deepest fights ran on autopilot. Monster accuracy is now bounded so an at-level monster always has a real chance to land blows. Early game is untouched, and tank builds still take far less damage, they just are not invincible anymore.
Gang War and PvP fixes. Your dual-wield second attack and your life-stealing weapons now work in Gang Wars, the Arena, and faction ambushes. Previously those only fired in normal dungeon combat.
Monster reinforcements. Enemy "summon" abilities now actually call in reinforcements instead of just printing a line of text, including several boss summon moves. Summoned minions give experience but no gold, so there is nothing to farm.
Clearer combat readout. The to-hit line in combat now reads "vs DC" with the value monsters actually need to roll against you, so the number matches what is happening.
New Features
Bank wire transfers. You can now send gold to another player straight from the bank. Choose a player, enter an amount from your bank balance, and it is deposited into their account on their next login. The bank keeps a small 2 percent fee. (Online play.)
More mercenary work. The Sellsword Hall job board gained a second tier of higher-paying contracts that unlock as you climb the Sellsword ranks, so the board stays fresh as you level.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a crash when starting an intimate encounter while playing in Hungarian, Spanish, or Italian.
Permadeath now fully erases a character. Creating a new character with the same name no longer inherits the previous one's quests, arena wins, worship, relationships, or children. Characters affected before this patch are cleaned up automatically on their next login.
Antidotes and the Healer's cure now recognize and clear poison inflicted by dungeon gas traps and feature discoveries (previously you could be poisoned but unable to cure it).
At Home, the option to resurrect a fallen companion or lover no longer charges you for someone who has already returned on their own.
Fixed the ">" key not cycling to the next party member when comparing dropped equipment on some terminals.
Translations (Spanish, French, Italian, Hungarian)
Scripted Stranger encounters are now translated, including the encounter that finds you after your first death and the other story-milestone meetings.
Dungeon lore found by examining features is now translated: epitaphs, scratched-wall inscriptions, waterlogged journals, and visions.
These join the ongoing translation effort across menus, combat, dialogue, and the rest of the world.
Stability, Security, and Maintenance
No more lost actions in online play. Closed a rare timing bug where a change you just made, recruiting an NPC, equipping a teammate, getting married, could be silently undone if the world simulation saved at the same instant.
Fixed the Linux BBS auto-updater so it actually applies updates instead of silently failing.
Hardened login against password guessing, plus a number of smaller server and stability fixes.
Found a bug? Report it in-game with the! command, or drop into our Discord. Thanks for playing, and see you in the dungeon.
