Development is moving forward steadily. At the moment the focus is on improving the core gameplay systems while also continuing work on the game’s levels and environments.

Our goal is to prepare a playable demo for the Halloween Steam event.

The full game is still a long-term project, but the demo should give players a first look at the atmosphere, pacing, and gameplay we are aiming for.

Zombie System Improvements

A large portion of recent work went into improving the zombie system and fixing issues.

Some of the recent changes include:

  • Zombie death animations now depend on the direction they are hit from, creating different falling physics depending on impact direction.

  • Improved headshot visual effects.

  • Interior sound reverb added for indoor spaces.

  • Improved rifle smoke and gunpowder effects.

  • Zombies now have a final death breath sound (recorded by devs).

  • Added body impact sounds when zombies fall to the ground.

  • Zombies now use two sensing systems: hearing and sight.

  • Detection distance can be adjusted individually per zombie.

  • Fixed zombies glitching while walking over props.

  • Fixed the sliding movement issue some UC fans mentioned from the videos.

  • Zombie system optimized for better performance.

  • Some zombies can now patrol while others remain passive.

  • Many new animations added, most edited in-house to create more unique movement.

  • Zombies now can crawl under objects

  • Improved bullet impact sounds when shooting zombies.

  • Level creation and set dressing for demo and full release

Voice Recording

We also recently completed a large voice recording session for the protagonist RJ Edwards.

We decided not to go the AI voice route and instead record the character properly.

More about this soon.

What Comes Next

The current focus is finishing core gameplay systems, continuing level production, and preparing the Halloween demo build.

More updates will follow as development continues.

Thank you again for supporting Undead Chronicles.
