As the year wraps up its been amazing to look back on everything we've achieved. 12 months ago(ish) we were in Early Access, had barely 25% of the game's current content, and so many exciting moments were still to come. It's been an incredible ride, and we can't wait to show you what we're cooking up for next year! But before we get to the update's content, let's have some fun!

Christmas Quiz

As we can't all get together and have fun irl, we thought it'd be cute to let you loose on a silly quiz - Which Trash Goblin Character Are You? We'd love to know who you are in the comments!

Merchandise

We're also ramping up our efforts towards the merchandise kickstarter that we're launching in January - you can register your interest there or via the button ingame - and of course tell your friends! We've already shown off one of the sticker sheets, so get excited to see more (pins, tshirts, mugs, etc!) soon!

HEARTHTIDE UPDATE

Just in time for the Winter Sale - tell your friends, now's a perfect time to get this Overwhelmingly Good game at a tasty discount - let's get into what we've just released for you to enjoy in Trash Goblin 1.3.5.HoHoHo!

Cosmetics:

It wouldn't be the festive season without some way to decorate your space - and that's where this brand new "Hearthtide Festival" cosmetic set comes in! The denizens of Silver City love nothing more than to ring out the old year and greet the new with a tidal wave of fireworks and lights of all colours, and this set reflects that tradition perfectly.

(Note: The 4 wallpapers in this set are free, as compensation for the wall merges - see below)

Customers:

We've finally implemented the last of the paper dolls that make up the strangers - so amongst other things this update includes humans (some with glorious hair), hench-as-all-heck lizards, a Golden Retriever and - naturally - a frog on top of a frog. As a hat. Or is it hair? But in a cloak. Naturally.

27 New Trinkets:

We're still adding more and more fun little items for you to discover and mess around with! ThIs brand new set will unlock after a visit from Aunty V.

Above you can see how quite a lot of these go towards making some really intricate objects - can you spot the rapier? The tea set? I think I can even hear the inkling of a music box?! We can't wait to see what your imaginations conjure up out of this lot!

Changes to Wallpapers

We took the opportunity to rework the wallpaper system a little bit. Frankly, some of the sections of wall were very fiddly to customise, and that's if you had even spotted them in the first place, so we merged a few meshes to give you fewer overall wall pieces. It is now much easier and way more user-friendly for you to manifest your desired aesthetic!

Here's a handy before-and-after:

For some players this change might have disrupted your chosen basement couture, so please do check and make sure you've got everything sorted. That's part of the reason why the wallpapers in this update's cosmetic set are free. To make it up to those of you who are just utterly distraught at the way we simply waltzed into your shop and changed things willy nilly. How very dare we!

Bug Fixes and Other Updates

This was intended as a smaller update but... it's Christmas so in the spirit of stuffing (birds, stockings, your face at the dinner table) we crammed as much in as we possibly could!

  • You can now view the full details of a dismissed customer's trinket request by hovering over it on the Quest Tracker. This much-requested feature is finally here to make your life so much easier!

  • NPCs were still sometimes asking you to break down your upcycled creations from the Display Mat! We're confident we have now put a stop to this cheekiness once and for all.

  • A bunch of existing trinkets have had new sockets added and one or two have had their socket types tweaked, all the better for more crazy upcycled monstrosi- I mean works of art.

  • Donoval will no longer just stand at your window and refuse to speak to you if you quit the game during the middle of a conversation with him. Though in future, you probably shouldn't be so rude to the Best Lizard Ever!

  • The wooden board at the back of the bed pipe can now be customised with simple colours, just like the shelves. Get painting!

  • The game now remembers the last chisel you used when reloading save files. Clever game.

  • The Return To Shop button now has a confirmation pop-up. Because we've all misclicked and lost out on a queue of eager customers...

  • Based on player feedback we've adjusted the timing of the "Success For Donoval" questline so that there are fewer days between his appearances. this will be readjusted when we next introduce more quests to the endgame.

  • We fixed a rare bug which reverted tool upgrades back to the default when connection to the Steam client dropped while you were loading a save.

  • We've added a set of goal-type quests to help guide new players towards useful purchases from Expansion Mode, including the Soak Tub and the Display Mat - things we think all players will get a kick out of, and that help to reveal the full potential of the game.

  • The Game Guide now has a section describing how the Reputation system works.

  • The 1.3 quests have been updated so that customers will now state when they want their trinkets clean.

  • Nomia will once again disappear when dismissed during their "customer dismissal" tutorial.

  • The Goblin Geode Idol will no longer levitate on shelves.

  • A bunch of other trinkets have also had their box collider adjusted so they sit on surfaces better.

  • "Quilted Bedding" versions of the reputation cosmetics now unlock at the correct level.

  • We've fixed some text overflow issues on a bunch of interfaces and buttons across multiple languages; thanks to all of you who helped us spot these!

  • The game will no longer freeze if your connection to Steam drops whilst chipping, upcycling or cleaning.

  • Text shadowing on the End of Day screen had gone missing. It is now back in place. Phew.

  • You will now be charged the correct amount when buying a full set of wallpaper patterns or shelves. Who can say what maths was being used before. Certainly not us.

  • Small Workmat and Large Workmat cosmetic overrides are no longer part of a set, and have to be purchased individually. This means you'll no longer be overcharged for a set when you own the Large Workmat.

  • The correct icon for the Spirit Culture bedpipe customisation is now in place.

  • The Goblin Geode Idol is now accepted by customers when they ask for Goblin Trinkets.

  • We've changed the orientation of connections on some charms (such as the Philospider's Stone Charm) so that when connected to necklaces via a "split ring" type trinket, they connect facing forward. Much better.

  • We've lowered the purchase price of the small shelves in Expansion Mode.

  • We've reduced the number of smoke particles on the stove for some performance wins on low end machines (including Steam Deck).

  • We've adjusted the lighting at various times of day to improve readability around the shop.

  • We've made some performance improvements to the lights in the workshop, and to the cart loading at markets.

  • The human paperdoll system has been optimised which should mean they load in quicker.

So that's it for 2025 - come join the goblins in our warm and cosy discord to show off your Hearthtide decorations, and until 2026, stay Goblin! 🥰

A final note, we're obviously taking a break with everyone else for the Christmas period, so expect us to be pretty quiet here and in the forums until January 😴
