Update: Rankings, Redesigns, and A Lot of Polish

Making a final push to get everything ready for the July 15 launch and am really happy with the progress, wanted to share an update.

Full notes

Full Track Star update

What changed

0 fixes1 addition3 changes0 removals
  • Gameplay
addedNew: Rankings and Revised NPC System
changedRankings is the headline, but to get it done right I also had to revise the way NPCs were generated. Your athlete now exists in a much more "living" pool of competitors vs. the previous way I generated competition. You will now be able to see rankings for League, Class, State, Regional and National, it will inform championship meet selection, etc. This change also brought your class (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.) into the game, something long overdue.
changedThe endgame screen was a bit of a mess, too many different ideas, so I reworked it into a cleaner framework.
changedThe old fatigue penalty was based on hard cliffs with certain thresholds, reworked into more of a gradual slope once you're under a certain level. More natural.

Redesigned: Training Screen

The training screen got a full two-column redesign, with Rankings embedded directly in the sidebar so you can check your standing without leaving the screen.

Redesigned: Race Strategy Screen

Race strategy is now a two-column layout pairing your rival breakdown with the meet atmosphere, which has also been restyled to look more editorial.

Redesigned: Endgame

The endgame screen was a bit of a mess, too many different ideas, so I reworked it into a cleaner framework.

Fatigue Rework

The old fatigue penalty was based on hard cliffs with certain thresholds, reworked into more of a gradual slope once you're under a certain level. More natural.

Tutorial

This had gotten very stale, did a quick rewrite to make sure it was in-line with current game.

That's it for now, I am excited for July 15!
