Touhou Danmaku Maze changes
It's finally time, let's talk about the v0.7 release~!
Game Engine
As stated in our last newsletter, we had to rewrite a majority of the game. This took up an obscenely large amount of time that we didn't anticipate. You'll notice tiny changes but they should affect anyone.
Since we got to change many things, we were able to add some new features as well!
New controller support
Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, and Keyboard are now compatable with the game! If there are any issues, give us a heads up in the discord and we'll fix it up.
Clear Stamp
It felt wierd to beat a level and not receive anything on your first try. While the trophies are still the main goal, you're guaranteed to get a cute stamp if you beat a level!
Tons of Quality Animations
There are so many tiny fixes, we can't list them all. From Reimu actually flying now, to the B item having a spawn animation, we really got picky and added alot of tiny details you'll probably miss.
New Stage 4
We've tested stage 4 with select players through the last 5 months as this stage is one of the hardest for us to balance. This stage is very puzzle heavy with many unique gimmicks players are not prepared for. With everything we learned, Patchouli's stage is completely redone.
While many of the themes and attack ideas remain the same, much of the attacks are tuned differently. It'll be impossible for us to list every change, here are the basics you'll want to know.
The Order of attacks have been changed to make a better story
New dialog added to make the story clearer
Most mazes got a difficulity nerf
Earth is completely redone
All attacks rebalanced
Alot more animations as well
Rebalancing The Game
Balance is a very difficult part of this game. Go too fast, Cirno can't dodge. Go too slow, Cirno can't dodge. Every little change has a HUGE impact.
What we found is that we want every difficulity to not only feel slightly different, but to also have requirements that feel different. For example, playing on Easy mode should be fairly easy to get the Gold Cirno Trophy. The gold trophy on Lunatic should be respectively hard.
Using this new logic, we have made some major changes:
Vacuum Ability Has Been Buffed
On Easy and Normal, The duration of the vacuum has been greatly increased. The range remains the same as this would make the ability too powerful.
Stage 2 Lunatic Medals and Stage 4 Medals Has Been Updated
Stage 2 on Lunatic was alittle "too" tight in certain aspects and has been nerfed.
Stage 4 is changed so much, the requirements have changed accordingly
Many attacks are nerfed
1-3 on Easy and Normal are nerfed
3-2 on Lunatic is nerfed
and more tiny changes
Other Tiny Changes
We made sure that every value of Cirno feels different on different difficulties. If you have already started speed-running the game, expect things to feels slightly different.
More Event Stages
We know you want to know what Stage 5 and 6 is. As stated before, we won't announce those levels until the finale. The good news is that there are some more short form Event Stages!
These stages look and feel different from the main game so we hope you enjoy~
The times for these levels have been set by players at the respective conventions we've showcased the games. Can you beat your fellow Touhou fans?
Rumia Rumble - Gensokoyo On 2026
This is the first reveal of the Rumia event stage. Featuring a very different style of maze play, take on Rumia in this dark twist
Boss Medley 01 EX - Cirnomazement 2026
We took the AGDQ level, changed the maze, and buffed all the attacks! Can you take on a harder version of this level?
Rumia Rumble ALT - Level Up 2026
We took the same Rumia attacks and made the map more difficult. Can you route through Rumia's attack in a harder map format?
Conclusion
We understand that this isn't a "massive update" but we had to set things up to get ready for the official launch.
Behind the scenes, we just finished building Stage 5 mazes and gimmicks. We got alot of playtesting to do but it's a very different kind of stage.
We can't wait to announce our release date which is coming "soon". Realistically, we anticipate 1 or 2 more updates before the game is complete.
