This simple principle has been completely profaned by H.P. Lovecraft. Cognition and knowledge here are not the way to tame evil - they lead to it.

One could say that cosmic horror is therefore anti-science by definition, although we, in creating the game Threshold of Awakening, prefer to read Lovecraft's intuitions differently. His grasp of horror touches most acutely that dark side of man, the realization that all the knowledge of this world pales beside the ghastly riddles of eternity... It is this aspect of the impossibility of knowing objective truth, the constant risk of madness that attracts us in the works of the loner from Providence. It is for this reason, that our heroine Jane must go to Tibet... What awaits her there is not only a struggle against the temptations of the Old Ones, but also against herself.
