Known as the Father of Cosmic Horror. An American writer of horror, weird fiction, and fantasy, whose work has inspired many, including us—the members of the Astrolabe team.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was a loner who had been interested in astronomy since childhood. Unfortunately, he failed to get into his dream college major. Another long-standing passion of his was writing, in which he found greater luck. After writing to The Argosy newspaper, he was offered a job there. At the urging of a friend, he refined his stories, which were then published in The Vagrant and Weird Tales.
The writer corresponded extensively with his readers and respected artists from across the country. Unfortunately, despite publishing many stories, Lovecraft struggled with financial problems for most of his life.
He died of intestinal cancer in his hometown at the age of 47.
