Hey Skylanders! Just wanted to share a concept of pickpocketing we’re working on in our roguelike pirate game.
Pickpocketing Mechanism Guide
Approaching the Target
To maximize your chances of a successful theft, approach the target unnoticed.
The best approach is from behind, especially for NPCs who are drunk or asleep, as they have slower reaction times.
Time Pressure
Each target has a set time limit before realizing they are being pickpocketed.
A ticking clock will appear on the screen, counting down the time until detection.
If you don't exit the interaction before time runs out, a confrontation will occur – the NPC may attack you or alert the guards.
Memory Game – Matching Items
When you open the target’s inventory, you’ll see the item layout by clicking on coin images.
Clicking a coin flips it over, revealing an item for a brief moment. If the selected pair of coins does not match, they both return to their original position.
You need to remember item positions and find two identical ones to steal them.
Every incorrect match increases the risk of detection and may shorten the available time.
Choose quickly and wisely – not all items are worth the risk!
Completing the Theft
If you successfully match items and exit the interaction before time runs out, the theft is successful.
A notification will appear on the screen showing the stolen items.
If you remain undetected, the target won’t realize they were robbed.
If caught, you can try to escape or prepare for a confrontation.
