Hi everyone!

Welcome to the first development log for The Sigil Engine. I launched the store page just a few days ago, and I wanted to share a brief look at what this project is, and why I’m making it.

Programming… but as Spellcraft

One of my long-time obsessions is the moment when a small piece of logic suddenly comes to life.

In traditional programming, that moment is powerful, but also intimidating to many people.

So with The Sigil Engine, I wanted to capture that sense of logic-coming-alive, but reimagine it as magic.

No code. No syntax. Just clean, visual blocks that feel like elegant spell components:

  • Move

  • Loop

  • Reap

  • Enseed

  • Purify

Players assemble these blocks into a “spell circuit,” and a tiny Automaton executes the magic in the physical world, collecting mana, interacting with old ruins, and solving small but meaningful arcane puzzles.

🧩 A Puzzle Game About Elegance, Efficiency, and Discovery

Each level is handcrafted with:

  • limited energy,

  • limited spell slots,

  • and a target amount of mana to collect.

The challenge isn’t just “can you solve it,” but “can you express the solution beautifully?”

I’ve always loved puzzle games that reward cleverness without punishing experimentation, so the game lets you retry instantly, tweak your logic, and feel the delight of watching the Automaton carry out your ideas perfectly.

🔮 Building the World of The Sigil Engine

Beyond the mechanics, I’m slowly shaping a quiet, cozy fantasy world, a place where forgotten energy networks sleep beneath moss and ruins, and where your magic doesn’t destroy, but restores.

This first demo only scratches the surface, but the themes of restoration, automation, and gentle mystery will continue to expand.

⚙️ What I’m Working on Next

Right now, my focus is on:

  • polishing the Spell Editor UI,

  • refining Automaton animations,

  • adding a few new puzzle blocks,

  • and preparing an updated playable demo.

There’s a lot more coming soon! And I’m excited to share the process as it grows.

🙏 Thank you for being here

Every wishlist genuinely helps a tiny solo developer like me. If this little world of magic × logic speaks to you, please consider adding The Sigil Engine to your Steam wishlist!

More updates soon.
