The Short Trip changes
The Short Trip has finally been released! How neat is that? This post will go over some behind the scenes transparency stuff and generally just a way to talk about my excitement.
This game took a little over 4 months to complete which honestly, I'm not too happy about. My expected time was 3 months (and generally, that's how long I want to spend on each game I make). The Short Trip was also created in Godot, and is technically my second game ever made and published. The first is a dinky little 3D junk collector game on itch that nobody should seek out to play because it's garbage. I feel a lot better towards The Short Trip.
Speaking of The Short Trip, if you couldn't somehow couldn't tell, the game is directly inspired by The Long Drive both in name and gameplay. Quietly while I was nearing the end of development I had begun to worry about if my game would make the developers of The Long Drive angry, but I had sent them an email a while after and got a response! Gus (the radio voice) replied and said my game looks really cool and he sent me a friend request on Discord, which absolutely made my day and gave me a lot of motivation moving forward with this project.
As the game released today, I should feel more excited than I am. In reality, I'm just so happy that I can move onto something else now. It's not like the development was a slog or that I hated it, quite the contrary; I just have so many ideas that I want to work on that I never felt like I could put aside The Short Trip until it was completed. I HAD to see this through and get something I'm proud of out there into the world.
Anyway, this post was more of a stream of consciousness public letter thing (would you believe that I'm an English major?) so I'm going to stop rambling now, take some time to relax today, and then get to work on my next project.
