Repeated intro
Hey all, programmer psy_wombats here with more news. The good news is that we have an official release date! The slightly less great news is that date is March 1st 2024, a bit later than our planned release in 2023, but I can also share what we've been working on and plan to cover with the extra time.

The Secret of Varonis changes
First up, we're overhauling the HUD. Our playtesters identified it as a source of friction and it was in dire need of polish. Artist JoSeraph is working hard on new customizable portraits for party members that fit more with our in-game art style, as well as illustrating the 5th member guest characters. With another coat of paint on the HUD, the game's UI should be a lot more intuitive and appealing. Here's a sneak peak of a few portrait sketches:
And as mentioned in our previous update, the in-battle HUD information is moving to the combat screen proper. HP labels and monster quantity indicators are now located in the game itself, so anyone running in classic mode without the HUD isn't at a disadvantage.
Other minor stuff we're covering... We've added about 25 new maps to the game over the past few weeks to break up the tedium of some story areas, we've tweaked battle flow to require less reading, and of course, we're always working on more animations to give each boss a bit more flavor. For a taste, here's our new FLARE animation (because every RPG needs a FLARE)
| Oh, and of course, composer SG has been working on more BGM. Our soundtrack right now is at 40 original chiptune compositions, and we fully plan to offer the OST for download. |
After a brief hiatus on Twitter, we're also resuming posting. Expect more action as we enter the home stretch. Thanks for following the project and we're all looking forward to sharing it with you!
