Update 1 is LIVE! Ballista, Gold Stashes, Heroes Rework & More!

Orcs and Humans!

Our biggest update yet has arrived. We've been listening to your feedback, analyzing the data, and working hard to bring you a massive batch of new content, experimental features, and quality-of-life improvements.

Let's dive in!

New Unit: Human Ballista

The Humans finally get their heavy-hitting defensive option!

  • Produced at the Blacksmith

  • Requires unpacking at a Guard Tower to activate

  • Once deployed: immobile, does not consume food (static defense)

  • Perfect for locking down chokepoints and supporting your army

Experimental Feature: Gold Stashes

This is a big one. We're testing a new mechanic that changes how you think about hoarding resources.

  • Gold Stashes spawn next to your main buildings when you accumulate a large amount of gold

  • If an enemy destroys your Gold Stash: you lose that gold

  • If you destroy an enemy's Gold Stash: you gain their gold

Why? This punishes passive stockpiling and rewards aggressive raiding. It creates new opportunities for comebacks and adds another layer of strategy to economy management.

This is experimental — we're watching feedback closely!

Heroes Mode Changes

Revival mechanics have been completely reworked:

  • Revival Amulet no longer has a cooldown

  • Heroes now start with 3 amulets

  • Every 5 levels, they gain +1 additional amulet

  • After all amulets are used, each resurrection takes a "long" time

This creates clearer windows of vulnerability and reward for taking down enemy heroes repeatedly.

Major Balance Changes

Economy:

  • Farm food production increased → fewer farms needed

  • "Feudal Reform" / "Disciplined Workers" rebalanced → peasants now consume 33% less food (was 50%)

Units:

  • Berserker's Stomp can now be set to auto-cast

  • Deathcloud now slows units (less powerful than dedicated Slowdown effects)

  • Apprentice changes:

    • Dispel ability available without research

    • New research unlocks ranged attack for Apprentices

World:

  • Neutral units' awareness range reduced → easier to sneak past

New Ranked Season

Big shift this season:

  • "Ranked" mode is disabled for the upcoming ranked season

  • Ranked games will now use"Classic" balance

We're testing different approaches to competitive play and want to see how the community responds to Classic balance in a ranked environment.

Heroes Mode: New Item

  • Staff of Blinking added — teleportation mobility for your hero

Quality of Life & Modding

  • Games in progress are now displayed in the lobby list (no more wondering!)

  • Various modding improvements and fixes based on community feedback

  • Join our Telegram chat for detailed modding patch notes

This update is the result of weeks of work and tons of player feedback. Thank you to everyone who's been testing, reporting bugs, and sharing ideas. You're shaping The Scouring with us.

Play now, and let us know what you think!
