changedSteam post imageFirst impression: Godrik Gripp is cheerful, persistent, and hard to ignore. Part shopkeeper, part cartographer, he seems harmless... Though it’s fair to wonder what he may be trying to distract you from.
changedSteam post imageGodrik began as a simple idea: a Zelda-style shopkeeper in the engine room, complete with an idle animation designed to get on your nerves. From there, he developed into a fully realised suspect. He runs a tiny shop stocked with compasses, maps, and navigation gear, which may not seem like your top priority during a murder investigation. But Godrik is also an expert cartographer with a serious interest in the submarine, its routes, and its secrets. Also, his best friend is Cornelius Cane: a wooden stick.

We're revealing the cast of The Mermaid Mask.

Over the next few posts, we’ll introduce the characters, the voice actors behind them, and a few clues about what makes each one worth paying attention to.

Let’s open the files.

Steam post image

Known for: Being a half-mermaid. The top half, conveniently.

First impression: Madam Tadpole is calm, self-contained, and very comfortable in her own corner of the Mortuga Submarine. She has the confidence of someone who has already lived several lives, and has no wish to revisit them. The question is what happens when someone threatens her peace if mind?

Madam Tadpole is a green half-mermaid with human legs, powerful arms, and a past she may not want examined too closely. She lives aboard the submarine in her own subaquatic grotto and seems content with her lot. She just wants to be left in peace. Naturally, that puts her firmly on the suspect list.

Voiced by: Tara Langella, whose credits include Medea in Hades II, Lord Ravager Phantylia in Honkai: Star Rail, Ophelia “Oppy” Turner in Pacific Drive, and roles in God of War Ragnarök, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Magic: The Gathering Arena.

Godrik began as a simple idea

a Zelda-style shopkeeper in the engine room, complete with an idle animation designed to get on your nerves. From there, he developed into a fully realised suspect. He runs a tiny shop stocked with compasses, maps, and navigation gear, which may not seem like your top priority during a murder investigation. But Godrik is also an expert cartographer with a serious interest in the submarine, its routes, and its secrets.

Also, his best friend is Cornelius Cane

a wooden stick.

Voiced by: Alex Bankier (Cat’s Eye, Code Geass: Dakkan no Z), who gives him the right mix of humour, intelligence, and mild irritation.

Steam post image Known for: Writing the wildly successful novel, Hex of the Helmsman

First impression

Sarcastic, wry, witty. J.D.

Wirman is a novelist under pressure

observing, plotting, and quietly turning everyone around him into material for his next book.

There’s a wonderfully tense, funny melancholy to J.D. Wirman: a Stephen King-flavoured author figure. Wirman is what happens when you make one very successful piece of art and then everyone immediately starts asking when the next one is coming. Hoping to be inspired by an adventure on a submarine, might Wirman decide to take the story into their own hands?

Voiced by: Alex Bankier, who also plays Godrik Gripp. Alex Bankier’s additional credits include Crème Brûlée Cookie in Cookie Run: Kingdom, Codename K in Zenless Zone Zero, and Eikþyrnir / Forde in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Known for: Child star and illusionist of the shuttered Fortuna Theatre

First impression: Eerie, enchanting, and mercurial, Symmetry Silkmoth has the presence of a haunted Victorian ghost-child turned stage magician.

Symmetry Silkmoth is equal parts ethereal emo and unsettling theatre kid. She's transformed the submarine’s storage room into the Illusion Theatre, where she has been working on her latest show and mostly keeping to herself. Mostly. She has a wonderfully lyrical way of talking, full of poetic cadence and dramatic little turns of phrase, which made her a joy - and a challenge - to write. But is this innocent persona her greatest illusion?

Voiced by: Justine Leah Hince, whose credits include The Biggleboss Incident, Dawnsbury Days: Good Little Children, Dawnsbury Days: The Profane Barrier, Crush Crush, and Fallout 4: Mind Games Mod.
