THE TIME HAS COME
The Field Between: Sacrifice has arrived! This is by far the largest update for The Field Between yet, and has taken a few months of development to reach this point. If you want a quick spoiler-lite teaser, feel free to watch the trailer:
Return to the field to celebrate the festival! A brand new daytime event that introduces an unusual new group of customers to your farm, as well as the cloaked statue that they happily worship. Will you join in the festivities? Or stay far away from their cultish antics? You never know, maybe you'll find out something new about yourself...
Patch Notes
Introducing the festival
The festival occurs every playthrough on day 5
All customers are replaced with dancing festival-goers and the the entire farm gets a confetti-coated overhaul
During the festival, your scarecrow is replaced with the menacing Crowned King, who will give you requests to fufill
New mechanic: Requests
Requests are obtained from the Crowned King, and are time-based challenges such as completing customer orders or harvesting a certain amount of crops
Complete these challenges within the time limit and return to the Crowned King to recieve a blessing
Blessings are extremely powerful upgrades that remain active until the end of the day
If you complete two requests daily, the Cloaked King will remain in your farm, allowing you to keep completing requests and gaining more blessings
Brand new events
There's a brand new night event attached to the festival, and that's all I can say
Brand new ending and ending variant
Attached to the festival content is a brand new ending, including a brand new unlock aswell
This also includes a new ending variant that combines this new ending with a pre-existing one
Reputation progression system
Reputation has been updated to play a more visible role in each playthrough
There is now a reputation counter on the HUD, so you always know what level you're at
You now earn special abilities the higher your reputation is, which can be viewed by pressing 'R'
Every 10 reputation points, you gain a new ability, but you can also lose your abilities if your reputation goes below that point
Abilities are split into three different categories
Resourceful is focused on preserving equipment and playing as efficiently as possible
Agile is focused on fast-styled play, great for players who want to be constantly active
Charismatic is focused on customer relations, excellent for boosting reputation and earning gold
Players can choose from one of these categories at the start of the playthrough, but be warned, once you've chosen, there's no going back
These categories should also help keep repeat playthroughs feeling fresh and interesting
New mechanic: Order Viewer
If the player has any waiting customers, they can now hold 'Q' to view their orders
This screen will display what the customer wants, how much of that crop you have, and the monetary reward you will recieve for completing that order
This should make keeping track of orders 100x easier
Enhanced UI
The entire UI has had a visual enhancement
New HUD graphics, that much better fit the farm aesthetic
Improved screens for the store, market, upgrade, and robot monitors
Thought dialogue is much more minimal
The in-game hud now sways slightly with movement
All graphical assets now share the same shaders as the game world, making them feel less seperate
Many brand new music tracks
Lots of music has been added for all the new events that can occur
Brand new track 'Sacrifice' has been added to the normal day rotation
All of these tracks will be available for streaming shortly
Added loading visual
This should help lower-end devices better visualise when the game is in a state of loading (and reassure you that it hasn't crashed)
Fixed 'Bountiful' fertiliser from not being usable
Adjusted nighttime event spawn logic
