July Activities in Review

Centered on the "tutorial improvements in the broad sense" that we mentioned in the previous letter, we delivered the July 30th update.

Below, we explain the intent behind the key changes.

◆ Tutorial & Introduction Overhaul

We completely revamped the opening conversations and early campaign text, aiming to make it easier for first-time players to understand "what kind of game this is" and "what role they can play in this world."

◆ Combat Improvements

We adjusted where reinforcements appear when they arrive, and players can now see in advance where they will emerge. This opens up more strategic options, such as waiting for reinforcements before attacking or positioning to set up pincer attacks.

We also made overall adjustments to combat animations, effects including parry, sound effects, and hit stop, making combat feel more responsive.

◆ Balance Adjustments

We adjusted the "food balance," an area where we have received feedback from many players. The changes primarily affect logistics stockpiling: food shortages are now less likely during peacetime, while wartime places greater importance on having a strong domestic infrastructure.

We are also aware of feedback such as "food runs out too quickly just from moving" and "food runs short too fast during battle." However, we have not changed these mechanics in this update, as we want to maintain the importance of hiring porters in a balanced ratio alongside combat units.

On the other hand, we added a note to the mouse hover UI on the porter hiring screen explaining their importance for sustaining food during sieges, providing better guidance for new players.

Additionally, we significantly increased the stats of higher-tier weapons and armor, strengthening the individual combat power of players and NPCs.

Previously, there were situations where even characters with high martial stats could be outmatched by high-level infantry units, and we have adjusted this balance.

NPCs with expensive equipment have also become stronger simultaneously, but in leader-versus-leader combat, they can be defeated through skillful parrying.

◆ UI Improvements

In response to feedback that "the UI is hard to understand," we completely redesigned the HUD panel icons and improved the information density and visibility of various UI panels. We made multiple adjustments to make on-screen information easier to read, including adding an outline to the player character during field movement and changing the troop count display format during invasions.

◆ Bug Fixes

We identified and fixed the cause of a bug report where "ranged units stop attacking and just stand idle during battle." This was an issue where they would not resume attacking after a formation change, and detailed reports from the Discord community helped us pinpoint the cause.

We also fixed other issues, including a phenomenon where the player would become unable to act at certain moments.

August Development Plans

◆ World Decay System Adjustments

The main focus for August is adjusting the specifications of the "World Decay" system, one of the game's key elements.

We have received feedback such as "the decay progresses too fast" and "it feels like a time limit and becomes stressful," and we are considering improvements.

World Decay is a system unique to this game, designed to create dilemmas for the player: you cannot simply conquer everything, nor can you simply stand by and watch. It gives you a sense of whether the actions you took were good or bad. Rather than weakening this system itself, we want to make it a more engaging element.

Specifically, we plan to more clearly present information such as why the decay level is rising, what can be done to reduce it, and how the choices and actions of the player and NPCs have affected the decay level. The goal is to make it more satisfying when things go according to plan, and more enjoyable to engage in trial and error when things don't work out.

◆ Continued Tutorial Text Improvements

We will continue revamping the text for the witch Ashbury's summoning and quest presentation events in the latter half of the campaign, improving guidance so that players are naturally led through the later stages of play.

Closing

In July, we delivered the tutorial improvements discussed in the previous letter, along with food balance and equipment stat adjustments, UI improvements, and a fix for a bug we had been tracking for a long time.

In August, we will work on making the dilemma experience at the core of this game more enjoyable through adjustments to the World Decay system. We appreciate your continued support of The End of History.
