The Deep Library changes
It's been about a month since "The Deep Library" entered Early Access, and there have been many updates since then, so I thought it'd be good to revisit the roadmap and show the current progress:
Several important strides have been made, including:
Five entities added -- Since launch, the Sentinel, Warden, Keeper, Defender and Curator have all been added into the game (I ended up swapping the release order of the Defender and Curator). Only the Custodian remains!
Increased limit, chamber visuals, and furniture -- At launch, only the first 100 chambers were available. That limit has been increased to 300, and alongside it, extra chamber visuals and furniture to go along with them. There are still a few more sets to go, but once they are done it will also be ready for the limit to be completely removed for the full release.
Control customization -- No longer forced to use WASD and Shift!
Entity Upgrade track -- I was originally going to hold this one off until closer to launch, or perhaps even after it, but I felt it was important to work on it, and as a result was able to get the additional upgrade options in the game faster than expected.
Currently in the planning and/or early steps of implementation:
Challenge Runs -- I've started to put together what will happen on the Challenge Runs in the game, and adding to the Enter LIbrary interface to accomodate it. These can be played to earn Challenge Points, which can eventually be used for other purposes (yet to be fully determined, but Atrium customization will be one of them).
VR Support -- With the recent announcement of Valve's new Steam Frame VR headset, I felt it would be important to up the priority of adding VR support. Since I have not done anything VR-related in Godot yet, this will require a good deal of research on my end, so it may take some time. Unknown as of yet whether I can have this feature completed prior to the game's full release.
Atrium Customization -- Still working out how exactly to implement this. I want the player to be able to use Challenge Points earned from the Challenge Runs to place furniture around the Atrium, and also to expand it out and make it bigger. This is completely different than everything else in the game so far, so I have much work to do.
In the meantime, I will continue to work on the game's overall experience. Numerous bugs and adjustments have already been made over the course of the last month, and I appreciate all the feedback I've been given. I'll do my best to get the full release into the best state it can be, and ahead of schedule if at all possible.
Thanks!
