The Carcass changes
Version 2.1.1: 6 Days to Launch
Released: August 6, 2026 Launch: August 11, 2026
Version 2.1.1 brings 114 changes. This update focuses on the first half hour, screen clarity, reliable text across 28 languages, and a smoother path into the game.
The tutorial was rebuilt from beginning to end
The first half hour was the main focus of this update. I played through the complete tutorial and reviewed every step from the player's point of view.
Tutorial lessons now appear reliably. If two lessons trigger together, both are shown in order instead of one erasing the other.
The third screen now keeps the decision in view instead of letting the map underneath take over.
The objective line continues to show the next action after the first step.
The help page now tells players that the full tutorial exists, so the longer course is no longer hidden.
The tutorial responds to the numbers shown on its own screen and takes you to the correct step.
Opening and introduction scenes
The game's first impression has been redrawn and reorganized so the opening reads as a sequence rather than a collection of broken screens.
The apocalypse and rebirth scenes now have enough room and are no longer cropped.
The seven ruins are aligned with their own names.
The Great Silence now shows the emptiness instead of counting it in a table.
The Prometheus age and collapse scenes use the full width, with each planet receiving its own screen.
Title cards show the localized scene name. Longer translations stay inside the frame.
The awakening receipt no longer looks frozen, and the screen no longer flashes red.
Typing skip now actually skips the scene.
Your chosen origin is reflected in the first screen, so the opening recognizes the history you selected.
Performance
The terminal should now feel noticeably lighter during ordinary play.
The game no longer checks hundreds of possible command paths after every keypress.
Typing no longer forces the whole screen to be read again, making input much smoother.
Combat
Combat screens now keep their state, explain their inputs, and return you to a useful place when a battle ends.
Entering a number in the battle report no longer restarts the fight.
Words requested in square brackets are now recognized by the same screen that asks for them.
The battlefield stays animated while the text remains steady and readable.
The battle briefing reports its own numbered options, and the help line explains what to enter.
The army now has a clear route into battle, and a declared war remains visible on screen.
After a finished battle, returning takes you to the army room instead of an empty screen.
Exploration, rewards, and grants
Discoveries and locked paths now explain what they offer and why they are or are not available.
Five exploration and territory discoveries now state their rewards clearly.
An earned room that has not opened yet explains why, and points toward the key.
A task you have already completed is no longer listed as an entrance route.
A date that has already passed is no longer offered again.
A sensed grant with no available route says so honestly instead of promising a path that does not exist.
A sealed door now tells you whether its requirement has been earned.
Six days remain
This update is about trust between the screen and the player. When the game asks for a number, shows a reward, locks a room, or begins a battle, the next step should be visible and the response should match what the screen promised.
The Carcass: Echoes of Rot launches on August 11.
