Today we’d like to introduce another key gameplay system in Terror: Endless Night — the Loyalty System.

Relentless cold, encroaching darkness, and the crew’s growing madness are only part of the challenges you’ll face as the captain of HMS Chione. Your crew is trapped in an icy prison, far from home, surrounded by eternal night. It’s only natural that, at some point, they may begin to question their captain’s decisions.

❤️ Loyalty — fragile and fading

Each crewmember has their own Loyalty indicator.

Many factors can affect it:

  • Your decisions as captain

  • Madness events

  • Ration distribution

  • The ship’s internal temperature

These are only a few examples of what may cause Loyalty to fall.

Officers, for example, due to their training, will lose Loyalty more slowly — though certain events or choices may affect them specifically.

A single disloyal sailor isn’t a threat on their own… but when dissent spreads, a group of angry men can become a deadly danger to the Captain.

⚖️ The balance between madness and obedience

As Captain, you’ll often have to choose what you believe to be the lesser evil.

Will you allow madness to spread if it keeps the crew obedient?

Is it better to protect the sailors’ sanity — or their loyalty?

Perhaps a crew consumed by madness but blindly loyal is easier to command… even if their actions grow unspeakably cruel.

Or maybe you prefer sane, rational men — who might start questioning your every order.

Or… can you walk the thin line between both extremes?

✊ Mutiny — when faith breaks

Average Loyalty aboard HMS Chione is calculated from the Loyalty of all living crewmembers (excluding those you’ve personally thrown in chains).

If this value drops below 50%, there’s a chance that Mutiny may occur.

When a mutiny breaks out:

  • If more than half the crew is disloyal, you will be overthrown and executed by your own men — in ways that may not be quick or merciful.

  • If the loyalists prevail, the rebellion will fail — but you must then decide the fate of the mutineers:

  1. Execute them all

  2. Kill only the leaders

  3. Punish them with flogging and branding

Each choice comes with consequences.

Executing everyone ensures that only the most faithful remain — their loyalty strengthened by fear — but it might leave you without enough men to even keep the ship running.

🧊Walking on thin ice

This dynamic system will force you to tread carefully — both morally and strategically.

In Terror: Endless Night, leadership is not about survival alone…

It’s about holding on to power when both the cold and the minds of your crew turn against you.
