A note on Steam Deck compatibility (updated)

5.12.2025 Update: Oops, turns out I was wrong about the Steam Deck verification requirements. I seem to meet them now, but developers can't "apply" or press a button to have their game verified.

changedOops, turns out I was wrong about the Steam Deck verification requirements. I seem to meet them now, but developers can't "apply" or press a button to have their game verified. The process needs to be initiated by Steam. Since this is a small game with a small (but lovely!) audience, I don't think verification is in the cards for Tea for Sana — at least not for a while. But it's all good, because the game still runs just fine on Steam Deck as described below. I'm always keeping an eye on the discussions to see if anyone has issues, so feel free to make a post if you need help. Cheers!
addedWhat does this mean? The badge comes with certain requirements that can improve playability on the Deck, but they don't really apply to this game. For instance, there's one requirement that says the game should pause when the Steam overlay is open — but because Tea for Sana doesn't have combat, passing time, or any real penalty for leaving the game "unpaused", I didn't add this in.

Original post on 14.11.2025:

Hello hello! Just a small update to let everyone know that Tea for Sana is playable on Steam Deck, but it will not have the Steam Deck Verified badge at launch.

What does this mean? The badge comes with certain requirements that can improve playability on the Deck, but they don't really apply to this game. For instance, there's one requirement that says the game should pause when the Steam overlay is open — but because Tea for Sana doesn't have combat, passing time, or any real penalty for leaving the game "unpaused", I didn't add this in.

These are mostly small changes, so I'll still work towards them after launch, but I wanted to focus on the essentials before release.

For now, I and several playtesters have tested the game on Steam Deck, and it runs just fine!

Note that if you're playing on Steam Deck with a wireless controller: you may need to choose a setting called Disable Steam Inputs to make the controller work. This appears to be a quirk of Steam in certain cases, for certain games. My playtesters did not report having to do this, but I just wanted to make a note in case anyone has issues.

I'm writing this about 15 minutes before release (woohoo!), so I'll be keeping an eye out for any feedback you guys have, technical or otherwise. It's my first solo game, so everything helps!

Thanks and see you on the other side of launch!

PS- Pepper is playing too...
