Symphorix changes
It feels like just yesterday that we embarked on this incredible journey with you, launching Symphorix into Early Access. Our story is a unique one: a solo developer from a small village, working alongside passionate students to bring a dream to life.[1] Your support, feedback, and belief in our music-driven, strategic survivorlike has been the crescendo to our development symphony. Today, we are beyond excited to announce that the next major update will be our full release! Symphorix Version 1.0 will be launching later this month, marking the end of our Early Access chapter and the beginning of a whole new movement.
When we first launched, we promised to remain in Early Access for one to three months to gather your invaluable feedback and polish the experience. We are thrilled to say that, thanks to your input, we are graduating in just two months, having fulfilled the promises we set out to achieve. This is not the end of our journey, but rather, the start of an even more ambitious future for Symphorix. We are committed to at least another year of active development, with tons of exciting content already in the works.
From Early Access to Full Symphony: The 1.0 Overture
Version 1.0 is a massive leap forward, built on the foundation we laid together during Early Access. We've been hard at work implementing a host of new features, significant improvements, and crucial fixes to make the game a richer, more dynamic, and more rewarding experience.
Here’s a detailed look at what you can expect in the full release:
New Features: A richer, more dynamic experience
Bosses by Merit (Per-Note Bosses): A complete overhaul of progression! You will now earn your way through the orchestral onslaught. Defeat enough enemies of a specific note to summon its boss. Vanquish the boss to unlock the next enemy type and its corresponding musical note. One note at a time, you will conquer the symphony.
- Enemy Meters on the HUDTo complement the new boss system, 12 new meters have been added to your display. These trackers show your kill-count for each note, displaying statuses like "Boss Coming," "BOSS ALIVE," and "BOSS KILLED." The meter pulses with each kill and again when you damage the boss, with its intensity growing as you get closer to the showdown. While a boss is active, the meter reflects its real-time health.
- Enemies Dance on Their NotesPrepare for a visual feast! When a song hits the note an enemy represents, they will perform a quick, signature "dance," no matter how far away they are. It's a flashy, fast flourish that adds a new layer of life to the battlefield.
- Epic Death ExplosionYour demise is no longer a simple fade to black. Now, dying triggers a spectacular cinematic explosion! A massive shockwave, a blinding flash, cascading sparks, and flying energy globes will fill the screen as your core disappears. We've even added a 1.5-second pause before the game over screen so you can fully appreciate the beautiful destruction.
- Center-Screen PopupsImportant notifications—such as new enemy introductions, level-ups, and upgrade confirmations—are now clearer and more organized. They appear in the center of the screen and stack upwards, ensuring you never miss a critical update.
Escape Key Shortcut: A quality-of-life improvement that allows you to press Escape to quickly deselect components and close panels when not in a game session, mirroring the functionality of a right-click.
Gameplay Improvements: Deeper Strategy, Smoother Flow
Smarter Orbital Enemies: Foes that circle you are now far more menacing. They will spiral inward, accelerating when far away and slowing their approach as they get closer, creating dynamic and tense encounters.
- Healing Enemies Join the FightA new strategic challenge awaits. Some enemies can now project a healing beam onto a wounded ally, steadily restoring their health. The stronger the healer, the faster the heal.
- Cannibal Enemies EvolveA truly terrifying new enemy type can drain the health and power from other enemies, growing larger and more powerful with each "meal." The longer they survive, the greater the threat they become.
Boss Glow-Up: Bosses are now a single, formidable enemy that arrives at a significantly higher level than the current wave and is scaled up in size for a truly imposing presence.
Steady Pressure & Longer Climb: The enemy count now ramps up smoothly over the first 15 minutes of a run, providing a more consistent challenge. Furthermore, the difficulty for enemies and bosses can now scale up to level 100, ensuring the late-game remains spicy.
- Progression ClarityWith the new boss system, only the meter for the currently active note will count your kills. Once its boss is defeated, the meter grays out, and the next note's enemies join the fray.
- Fresh Song DiscoveryThe song list is now randomized every time you start the game, encouraging the discovery of new tracks. Your custom songs will still conveniently appear at the top.
- Smoother Play FlowWe've removed the "Accept Costs" button before a run begins. The game now handles this automatically when you hit "Play," getting you into the action faster.
- Clearer Announcements & Snappier AnimationsAlerts for new enemy types are now easier to spot in the heat of battle, and a host of animation timings have been polished to ensure they are always snappy and responsive.
Fixed Issues
- Silent Beam EffectsThe new healing and cannibal beams now operate without sound, allowing you to focus on the core combat audio.
Enemies will no longer occasionally get stuck in a deformed state after their note animation.
Your wallet is now safe! Pasting a node's settings will no longer allow you to go into debt. The action will be blocked if you cannot afford the cost.
Still to Come in Version 1.0
We're putting the finishing touches on several key features that will also be included in the full release:
Achievements: Test your skills and unlock a full suite of achievements.
Leaderboards: Compete with players from around the world for the top spot.
Rating and Ranking Songs: A system to rate and rank the musical battlegrounds.
Unlocking / Progression System Improvements: Further refinements to the overall progression.
- Onboarding / TutorialAn improved introduction to the game's unique mechanics.
Energy Stealer: A surprise that we can't wait for you to discover!
Different types of Level-up options and a Unique Deterministic Re-Roll Mechanic.
The Future of Symphorix: Our Post-Launch Roadmap
As we've said, 1.0 is just the beginning. We have a packed roadmap for the year ahead, including:
New Attack Types: Prepare to wield the power of Shields and Lightning!
- More Enemy VarietyWe're designing tons of new enemies to challenge your strategies.
New Game Modes: Explore different ways to play with Meditative, Bullet Hell, Strategic, Endless, and a full Campaign mode.
