Summoners War changes
Greetings from the Summoners War Dev Team!
We are finally here to bring you exciting news about our newest collaboration!
Thank you to all Summoners who sent us love and support following the pre-notice.
On July 30, the collaboration between the legendary 3D fighting game TEKKEN 8 and Summoners War begins.
Characters that left a powerful impression in the original game are getting ready to meet you in a Summoners War style.
We are working hard to ensure that you enjoy various new collab content. Please look forward to it!
Let’s take a look at what kind of content is prepared for the upcoming TEKKEN 8 collaboration.
Before we dive in, we have prepared a dev story video covering the collaboration.
Check it out via the link below!
SUMMONERS WAR X TEKKEN 8
The TEKKEN 8 collaboration begins on July 30, 2025!
[Tekken] is a world-renowned 3D fighting game series published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. First released in arcades in 1994 and on the PlayStation console in 1995, the series has continued for over 30 years, earning the love of fighting game fans across the globe. It is one of the most iconic and beloved titles in the genre to this day.
The Tekken series is especially known for its realistic 3D combat visuals, distinct fighting styles for each character, and a complex yet gripping storyline centered around the Mishima bloodline.
In particular, the latest installment [TEKKEN 8], released in 2024, has been praised as a “textbook fighting game” for its improved graphics, heavy impact feel, and newly introduced battle system.
For this collaboration, five key characters from [TEKKEN 8] have been reimagined in Summoners War’s signature:
[Jin Kazama, Hwoarang, Paul Phoenix, Nina Williams, and Heihachi Mishima].
Jin Kazama, the main protagonist fighting against his fate, wielding power and determination to dominate the battlefield.
Hwoarang, who relentlessly pressures his opponents with fast, precise Taekwondo kick combos.
Paul Phoenix, a bold fighter with overwhelming power and deep martial arts spirit.
Nina Williams, the cold assassin who strikes with speed and lethal technique.
And finally, Heihachi Mishima, the very symbol of Tekken itself with unmatched charisma and combat skill.
Each character, with their unique identity, will be reinterpreted to deliver a new level of excitement in Summoners War.
Like previous collabs, the Tekken Collab Characters will appear only in their Awakened form, using their original names.
They will be added as either Nat 4 or Nat 5 depending on attribute,
with Heihachi Mishima appearing only as a Nat 5 Fire Attribute Character, obtainable through a special event.
Please refer to the table below for more details.
You are probably most curious about how Tekken's powerful fighting techniques will be recreated in Summoners War.
We have worked hard to preserve the original essence while delivering new fun through diverse skill mechanics.
Here's a sneak peek at some of the skills.
We spent a lot of time thinking about how to best capture the skill identity of Tekken characters in Summoners War.
For example, Hwoarang’s combat style in the original focuses on pressuring the opponent through fast and precise kicks.
We interpreted that in Summoners War as an overwhelming number of hits, giving him some of the highest multi-hit skills.
We hope you get to experience the stylish and fast-paced action Hwoarang is known for in Summoners War.
This collab also comes with voiceovers for each character during skill activation.
Although Tekken does not feature much dialogue, shouts and lines specific to each character have been implemented.
We recommend playing Summoners War with sound to enjoy the full impact of their battles.
We have always included limited-time content to make collabs more entertaining, and the Tekken collab is no different.
Take a closer look at what’s been prepared below.
■ Collab Event Building: Fight Lounge
The Fight Lounge is a dedicated space where various collab content is available for convenient access during the collab.
You can enter the Fight Lounge by accessing it directly or via the collab icon added to the right side of the Sky Island screen.
Upon entering the Fight Lounge, you can view and access all the collab content at a glance.
Let's dive into the details of what content you can enjoy through this screen.
■ Collab Event Dungeon: Arcade Battle
For this collab, we have prepared an entirely new style of event dungeon dubbed Arcade Battle.
To reflect the fast pace and intensity of fighting games, we tried many new approaches, from dungeon structure to combat style and UI.
Arcade Battle progresses through consecutive stages, with your party growing stronger after each battle.
You will also face powerful bosses straight out of the Tekken universe.
The format includes single-round, high-impact battles and various upgrade elements, offering a unique experience.
The following are some of the aspects that make Arcade Battle special:
★ Arcade Battle Features
▶ Arcade Battle is a 5v5 battle mode where you fight alongside Tekken Collab Characters.
Your team must include at least one Tekken Collab Character to begin battle. Even if you have not summoned one, you can choose one of the four Collab Characters provided upon entry to support you.
You would have noticed that the UI resembles the character select screens from classic fighting games.
We wanted to capture that same vibe in the interface since we are collaborating with a legendary fighting game.
Here's how the screen is laid out:
① Select your Monsters to participate in battle. This works like the existing battle preparation screen.
② Choose your opponent.
: Instead of battling against a predetermined enemy deck, you will battle against random enemies in Arcade Battle. When a Monster is selected from the list, the remaining slots will be filled around it.
③ View information about the opponent team selected in ②.
Once your team is ready, the 5v5 battle begins. Here are some more key features.
▶ Arcade Battle has three difficulty levels (Normal, Hard, and Hell), each consisting of seven rounds.
You will progress in the order of Normal > Hard > Hell. To unlock the next difficulty, clear all seven rounds of the current one.
After battling six of the 18 Monsters displayed on the UI, one for each round, a boss round will begin in Round 7.
When the boss round is cleared, the next difficulty level will unlock. The enemy list will be refreshed upon advancement.
In previous collabs, you had to select paths on a tile map to progress in event dungeons.
For this collab, the format has been redesigned for a more arcade-style progression in line with the fighting game theme.
Like the Arena, each round will be a single 5v5 battle without waves, allowing for faster gameplay.
Winning a battle unlocks upgrades for strengthening your Monsters.
To clarify the loop for each difficulty,
① Battle a randomly selected enemy team each round.
② Win and select an upgrade to strengthen your team.
③ Battle the next round with the upgraded team.
④ Repeat steps ① to ③ to reach Round 7 and face the boss.
If you struggle in a round, you can restart from Round 1 while keeping all your upgrades.
Try different builds or upgrade paths for a fresh strategy.
Please read on for more details on the upgrade system.
▶ Upgrade options will be available after clearing each round.
After each round, you can choose an upgrade to strengthen your party.
There are two types of upgrades — stat upgrades and special upgrades.
STAT UPGRADE
HP / Attack Power / Defense / Attack Speed / Critical Rate / Critical Damage / Accuracy / Resistance
You can select one of four randomly presented stats for upgrade after clearing each round.
The selected stat is applied to your entire party with fixed values.
SPECIAL UPGRADE
Special Upgrade options appear after clearing Rounds 3, 5, and 7, unique to specific Monsters.
They apply special effects such as heal amount increase, buff duration increase, extra turns, Continuous Damage, etc.
Particularly in Round 3, upgrades exclusive for Tekken Collab Characters will appear to enable synergy builds.
You can also stack multiple special upgrades on the same Monster to maximize their potential.
Take a look at some of the special upgrades for a better understanding.
Special upgrades not only boost the Monster's utility but also allow you to try out a completely new style of play.
If none of the special upgrade options look interesting, you can refresh the special upgrade list up to 5 times.
There are limits to how many times a Monster can receive stacked special upgrades, so take that into consideration.
★ Arcade Battle Boss
At the final round of each difficulty, [Kazuya Mishima, Azazel, and True Devil Kazuya] make their grand entrance as bosses.
Let's preview Kazuya Mishima, the boss for Normal difficulty.
Kazuya is designed to reflect his cold, ruthless nature and quick combat style.
If you expose an opening, Kazuya will punish you with devastating counterattacks.
The battle against Kazuya will be challenging as he will constantly be angling for punishing attacks — removing beneficial effects with [Omega Crash] and counterattacking with [Mishima Style Fighting Karate] when attacked by a Monster with no beneficial effects.
To keep him in check, we advise using Monsters that can consistently grant beneficial effects on your team.
For instance, Sadiel and Zeryah, the Wind Twin Angels, will be a reasonable choice. Its beneficial effect skill set will effectively neutralize Kazuya's counterattack passive and contain his Attack Power boosted by [Devil Gene].
We are confident that you will come up with clever strategies, as always, to overcome Kazuya.
In addition to round clear rewards, please also look forward to various weekly rewards available in Arcade Battle.
Next, let’s talk about the minigames prepared for this collab.
■ Collab Limited Content: Minigames
For the Tekken collaboration, we have also prepared limited-time minigames to test your reflexes and controls.
These games were inspired by Com2uS’ beloved title Super Action Hero 2.
Veterans who enjoyed Super Action Hero 2 may feel a wave of nostalgia, while newcomers find them easy to pick up.
There are three minigames in total, and Wall Break Lv. 1 will open with the first update. Higher levels and the remaining minigames will be added in weekly updates. You can also compete against other Summoners through a weekly ranking system. Let’s explore the minigames one by one.
★ Minigame Overview
▶ Wall Break
Wall Break is the first minigame to launch, where the goal is to destroy as many walls as possible within the time limit.
Walls continuously appear from the left side of the screen. You can attack or throw them to break them, and each break slightly increases the time gauge.
The screen features a directional keypad on the left and punch/kick buttons on the right.
Use these controls to break walls, avoid obstacles, or leap over them while avoiding falling off the shrinking stage.
As levels increase, wall positions and patterns become more complex and faster.
Your reflexes and positional awareness will be crucial to survival.
▶ Vengeance is Mine (Early August)
This combat-focused minigame challenges you to defeat as many enemies as possible within the time limit.
The controls are the same as Wall Break, but fast response and attack timing are vital.
As the stage progresses, enemy patterns become trickier. From Lv. 2 onward, you can also knock enemies off ledges.
Later stages feature enemies in hero masks and even boss-size giants, adding tension and challenge.
Rather than just spamming attacks, you will need to time dodges, knockbacks, and counters strategically.
There are various combos to discover, which you can learn in the Training Center on the game selection screen.
▶ Jump Jump (Late August)
This vertical-scrolling game has you climb higher and higher by jumping from platform to platform.
Platforms vary in shape and spacing. As difficulty rises, you will face moving, disappearing, or distant platforms.
Occasionally, a jump item appears for a boost — but missing the timing may lead to a fall or a game over.
★ Minigame Mask System
Each minigame includes a Mask system that changes your character’s appearance and grants special abilities.
Masks are retro-styled and themed after Tekken Collab Characters and Summoners War Monsters, with unique stats tailored to each minigame.
You start with a basic mask and unlock more by achieving high scores or completing objectives.
Some masks have special unlock conditions. Check the in-game guidelines for detailed requirements.
The first update introduces 20 masks, and 10 more will be added with each update. Try collecting them all!
Take a look at the screenshot below for a preview of the masks.
You can choose a mask and its stats before starting each minigame.
Also, as you play, the gauge at the bottom left will fill up. Once full, you enter "Transformation Mode," which is similar to a fever time that temporarily enhances performance.
Depending on the mask, this transformation may trigger "Giant Mode," dramatically increasing size and stats.
Some masks improve jump speed or let you skip stages, making them strategically important for certain games.
■ Minigame Reward: Mask Collection
You can collect masks and earn rewards for every five masks gathered.
As mentioned, 10 new masks will be added with each update, letting you grow your collection steadily.
Check the reward table below and look forward to seeing the newly added masks.
If you collect all available masks, your Giant Mode activation rate becomes 100% regardless of the mask.
Try completing your mask collection to unlock this special effect.
That was an overview of the minigames.
Even though controls are simple, each level adds intensity, so we encourage everyone to give the minigames a try.
