Sublustrum changes
Hello everyone!
Since announcing Sublustrum, we've been reading your comments, questions, and discussions across Steam, Discord, and other social media. Some of you remember the original game, while others are only just discovering the Flickering World.
There are still a few things we're not ready to reveal just yet, but we'll continue sharing more as development progresses.
Today, we'd like to answer some of the questions we've seen most often and tell you a little more about the Sublustrum remake.
Will the original version of Sublustrum be released on Steam?
Yes, we do plan to bring the original Sublustrum (known to many players as Outcry) to Steam.
We know many of you have fond memories of the original game and would love the chance to experience its unique atmosphere again. However, right now our main focus is the new version of Sublustrum presented on this page.
We'll share more news about the original release when we're ready.
Will Anthesteria's music be featured in the new game?
Yes. Music and sound design were an essential part of the original Sublustrum, and Anthesteria remains an integral part of the game's world in the remake.
What do you mean by a "reimagining" of the original game?
The new Sublustrum preserves the original game's core concept, mood, and atmosphere while rebuilding the experience with modern technology.
The original game was a point-and-click adventure built around fixed screens. In the remake, you’ll be able to move freely through each location, explore the environment from new perspectives, and interact with the world in new ways.
This is neither a simple remaster nor a scene-by-scene recreation. We're rebuilding Sublustrum from the ground up, staying true to its foundations while expanding its world, locations, details, and interactions.
Will the original puzzles be redesigned?
Yes. During development, we're refining familiar mechanics and adding new details.
Our goal is to make familiar elements recognizable to returning players without making them feel as if they're simply repeating puzzles they already know.
Will the locations from the original game change?
Yes, but their core identity and atmosphere remain intact.
In the original Sublustrum, locations were experienced through individual scenes and fixed viewpoints. In the remake, we're rebuilding them as complete, interconnected spaces that you can freely explore, examine from new angles, and experience in greater depth.
Conceptually, they're the same places you remember – but now they're larger, richer in detail, and feel like real, physical environments.
Some locations have also been expanded with entirely new rooms and sequences, including ideas that were originally planned for the 2008 game but could not be realized at the time.
When will the playtest or demo be available?
We’re not ready to announce an exact date yet, but the wait shouldn’t be too long.
We’re preparing a separate announcement with more details about the format, timing, and content of the demo or playtest.
What will be included in the demo or playtest?
We don’t want to reveal the demo’s content in advance, but we’ll definitely share more details closer to its release.
Is the language list on Steam final?
The languages currently listed on Steam are the ones we've confirmed so far.
If anything changes, we'll update the Steam page and announce it in future posts.
What engine is the game being developed in?
Sublustrum is being developed in Unity.
Thank you for your questions!
We're delighted to see both longtime fans of the original Sublustrum and players discovering this world for the very first time.
In the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more about the remake's development, including its locations, music, puzzles, atmosphere, and our plans for the upcoming demo.
If you haven't already, wishlist Sublustrum on Steam and follow the page to stay up to date with future news.
