addedThe one year anniversary of Splurge's early access release is here! To celebrate this milestone, the Anniversary Update (v0.3) has been released! This update adds a new gamemode, game modifiers, and much more!
changedNEW GAMEMODE: Tired of the current game loop? Well great news! The new gamemode changes the way you play the game! Previously, the only way to win was to eliminate every other player and be the last one standing. It didn't matter how you got there; whether you were dominant for the entire game or managed to scrape by and get a lucky chain of splurges to steal victory at the last second. Now when you play in this new gamemode, each player collects points at the end of every turn for the amount of tiles you currently have claimed. You also get a small handful of points each time you splurge a tile. When there's only one person left, instead of that person automatically winning, the person with the most points wins.
changedMODIFIERS: The only way you used to be able to customise your splurging experience were changing basic settings (map size, map type, etc). Now with the addition of modifiers, there are vastly more customisation options for the game, allowing for increased replayability. This update introduces 4 modifiers, each unique and designed to be compatible with one another, with more planned for the future. The current four are listed below: Fog: Any tile that is not owned by you, or adjacent or diagonal to you is shrouded in a thick layer of fog, limiting your visibility of the map. The visibility is dynamic, meaning gaining or losing tiles will change where the fog is covering. Blind: Every other team's colour is replaced with the default white colour, meaning you can't see where everyone else's tiles are, or how much progress they have on them. You can still see when players place on a tile, or when their tile splurges. Sleepy: At the start of the game, some tiles will be 'asleep', meaning they can't be directly placed on, effectively rendering them as barricades. The only way to claim them is to splurge into them from an adjacent tile. However, a tile additionally goes to sleep whenever it splurges. Expansion: After the first turn, players will only be able to place new tiles next to the ones they already own. This allows for players to get boxed in and besieged by others - something that was previously not possible. Note: for the fog and blind modifiers, if you try to place on someone else's tile that you can't see, the game rejects your move and skips your turn, so placing blindly to figure out where everyone is isn't an option for these modifiers!
addedAdded two new simple maps; Four Corners and Grid
addedAdded one new song that plays during tile decay
addedAdded 4 new steam achievements relating to the new content

MODIFIERS
The only way you used to be able to customise your splurging experience were changing basic settings (map size, map type, etc). Now with the addition of modifiers, there are vastly more customisation options for the game, allowing for increased replayability. This update introduces 4 modifiers, each unique and designed to be compatible with one another, with more planned for the future.
The current four are listed below
Fog: Any tile that is not owned by you, or adjacent or diagonal to you is shrouded in a thick layer of fog, limiting your visibility of the map. The visibility is dynamic, meaning gaining or losing tiles will change where the fog is covering.
Blind
Every other team's colour is replaced with the default white colour, meaning you can't see where everyone else's tiles are, or how much progress they have on them. You can still see when players place on a tile, or when their tile splurges.
Sleepy
At the start of the game, some tiles will be 'asleep', meaning they can't be directly placed on, effectively rendering them as barricades. The only way to claim them is to splurge into them from an adjacent tile. However, a tile additionally goes to sleep whenever it splurges.
Expansion
After the first turn, players will only be able to place new tiles next to the ones they already own. This allows for players to get boxed in and besieged by others - something that was previously not possible.
Note
for the fog and blind modifiers, if you try to place on someone else's tile that you can't see, the game rejects your move and skips your turn, so placing blindly to figure out where everyone is isn't an option for these modifiers!
OTHER CHANGES:
Added two new simple maps; Four Corners and Grid
Added one new song that plays during tile decay
Added 4 new steam achievements relating to the new content
Lots of visual changes, touch ups and polishes
Improvements to the UI to make it smoother and more intuitive
Fixed many seemingly random crashes, softlocks, and other bugs and glitches
I hope you enjoy the new update!
