New game update: smoother controls, cleaner commands, and better unit behavior
Hey Commanders,
We are happy to release a new update for the game. We heard your feedback and implemented some significant gameplay improvements that we are sure you will appreciate.
This 0.1.5 patch is all about making Space Tales feel better in your hands!
For this update, we focused on improving the core feeling of the game: cleaner inputs, more reliable unit behavior, and fewer moments where the UI or command system gets in the way.
A lot of work done by the team but not yet visible is the localisation system. After discussing with the talented localiser and hearing their suggestion, we decided that each language should have it’s own space Tales lingo. Meaning a recruits or a squid will have its own translation for each new language. To be able to implement this smoothly and rapidly, we had to create our own tool. It’s all done now so new language will come soon.
Cleaner command feedback
One of the biggest improvements in this update is how the active command cursor behaves. Commands such as Move, Attack Move, Repair, Patrol, and unit abilities should now display more clearly and consistently when selected.
When you move your cursor between the battlefield, panels, portraits, menus, and other UI elements, the game should now better understand what you are trying to do. This means fewer confusing cursor states and a smoother experience when giving orders during intense moments.
Better right-click behavior
We also improved how right-click works when a command is active. Right-clicking on the map now properly moves your units and cancels the previous active command. Right-clicking on UI panels or other interface elements now simply cancels the current command without triggering unwanted behavior.
It should now feel more natural to correct an order, cancel a command, or quickly react when the battle changes.
Easier ability selection
The ability bar has also received some attention. We increased the clickable area of ability buttons and fixed an issue that could make ability selection feel delayed in some cases.
This should make it easier to select skills quickly, especially during combat when every second matters.
More reliable command chaining
We reworked how several core commands interact with each other, including Move, Attack Move, Hold, Stop, Patrol, Burrow, and Unburrow.
This means units should behave more consistently when you issue multiple orders in quick succession. The game should now better respect your latest command and avoid overlapping orders in confusing ways.
Improved group behavior
Grouped units should now be more reliable when receiving commands or casting skills.
If units are patrolling, holding position, or casting a skill and they encounter enemies, they will now react more consistently, fight when needed, and then return to their previous behavior when appropriate.
We also improved how commands like Esc, Hold, Stop, and right-click interact with skill casting, making it easier to stay in control of your army during busy encounters.
Unit-specific fixes
Several units and abilities have been updated to work properly with the improved command system, including Xander, Nurse, Bouncer, Probe, Tank, Wanderer, Glutton, Lethos, Recruit, Shadows, and Cleaner.
We also fixed a number of specific issues, including:
Probe behavior when using Salvage
Tank interaction with panel dragging and restricted areas
Glutton cooldown display
Glutton casting both skills at the same time
Wanderer locking the mouse after casting a skill
Strange animation behavior when units cast skills while patrolling
These fixes should make unit control feel cleaner and more predictable across the board.
A better game feel
This update is an important one for the long-term feel of the game. Space Tales is built around fast decisions, base defense, unit control, and tactical adaptation. Improving how commands, abilities, and groups behave makes every battle smoother and gives you more confidence that your units will respond the way you expect.
Thank you again for your feedback and support. Keep sharing your thoughts with us, and we will keep improving Space Tales update after update.
