addedThe dragon finally shows up!But that's not all, it also has the power for "omnidirectional flight" thanks to its tiny wings. That means that you can move in a direction and use directional weapons in another. This goes well with its fiery breath or the Gatling gun. It also comes, as usual, with its own new weapons to unlock in the meta progression tree, like the tornado or the talons.
changedThe dragon finally shows up!I have reworked the mouse and the stick controls for the omnidirectional flight gameplay. I usually play with the keyboard, but I recommend using the mouse or stick controls for this character if you plan on using its omnidirectional flight ability.
changedA beginning and an endI focused on gameplay first, but I couldn't fully release Skigill without some context! When booting up the game, you will be shown a skippable cutscene. That is only the beginning of the story, you will have to earn the rest by beating the game. And I don't mean finishing a run alive, I mean beating the Skigill for real!

The dragon finally shows up!

It was just minding its own business near the beach and got caught in a vortex. Now it has to fight and escape a mob of monsters. Luckily, it is a powerhouse of magic and a born hoarder, its starting position on the Skigill allows it to get more Ski points from enemies dying with an elemental status. Then it can either profit from unspent Ski points with other perks, or make the most out of the power of the elements.

But that's not all, it also has the power for "omnidirectional flight" thanks to its tiny wings. That means that you can move in a direction and use directional weapons in another. This goes well with its fiery breath or the Gatling gun. It also comes, as usual, with its own new weapons to unlock in the meta progression tree, like the tornado or the talons.

I have reworked the mouse and the stick controls for the omnidirectional flight gameplay. I usually play with the keyboard, but I recommend using the mouse or stick controls for this character if you plan on using its omnidirectional flight ability.

A beginning and an end

Skigill actually has a story, and now you can experience it!

I focused on gameplay first, but I couldn't fully release Skigill without some context! When booting up the game, you will be shown a skippable cutscene. That is only the beginning of the story, you will have to earn the rest by beating the game. And I don't mean finishing a run alive, I mean beating the Skigill for real!

I think it has to do with this strange thing that appeared in the center of the main Skigill.

Also, the Skigill is full of these nasty creatures now, and they are more frequent in greater difficulty levels. They block important nodes, you may have to adapt your strategy.

If you think everything does not make sense after Master Key, that's normal. It's because Skigill takes place after Havenlocked, my next game yet to be released.

Extended Meta Progression

If you have too many Gill points and do not know what to do with them, here is something for you!

The meta progression tree was greatly extended, but the new nodes give lesser returns. The central nodes are untouched and as easily accessible as before, but you will have something to spend your points, even for marginal returns.

What's next for Skigill?

You might be wondering what the 1.0 means for Skigill. First, it means getting out of the early access!

Every point mentioned in the early access section of the Steam page was fulfilled, and even more:

  • 3 characters

  • 12 weapons

  • 7 bosses

  • 2 new standard enemies

  • 1 new game mode

  • High-score timer in the main menu

  • Many other QoL and features

I think that with the latest additions, the game is in a good place and gives interesting gameplay choices. I will continue to update the game to improve the balance and fix bugs, and I do not rule out returning to Skigill to implement new pieces of content like new characters from future games, or a new game mode. But further content updates are not planned right now.

Talking about future games, check out my next game!

It's a top-down Zelda-like with the characters from Skigill! My efforts will be focused on this game starting from now. It's a bit early, and I have mostly been focused on the level design, so I don't have much to show
