changedHello Everyone! This week we prepared something new, a post dedicated entirely to exploring the worldbuilding and lore around our game. It will serve as both an interesting read for you, as well as a tool for us developers to get feedback, spot inconsistencies and improve the quality of our lore. They’re not meant to spoil the story of the game, but to help unfold and wrap our heads around the outlandish world of Shards Of Order. These types of posts will now be a recurring theme that will sometimes come out in between our regular devlog updates. Tell us what you think about posts like these, and enjoy!
changedWelcome to the land of the ShardsThere is no hunger, no time, nor even death, and yet… the world has not fully vanished. Even in all this bleakness, there are still those who fight on. Those who see the spark of hope in the darkness of apocalypse and remain steadfast. They gather around the few remaining places of relative calm and stability, pockets of normality among the sea of chaos.
addedWelcome to the land of the ShardsBut these sanctuaries are not safe either. The crumbling reality affects the survivors, pushing them towards the brink of sanity. Needless violence and fanatical beliefs are a new norm… but the alternative? What happens if you manage to find yourself in the dark, outside of the few safe havens?
changedThe LostFirst, you will most likely lose your way in the never-ending wasteland of bare rock and mist, and that's only if you're lucky enough to not get mauled by a beast. You will slowly but surely forget about your past life, who you were, and who you are. You will become one of the Lost. Your flesh will show the sign of you losing your identity, becoming grey as the mist you wandered for what felt like forever, your face morphing into an unrecognizable blob of hard skin.

Welcome to the land of the Shards

The world did not end in a bang; it simply began to silently unravel itself, slowly dissolving into a sea of nothingness. The Laws that govern the world are gone. Were they stolen? Shattered? Who knows. The Final Sin, for which all creation has to suffer.

There is no hunger, no time, nor even death, and yet… the world has not fully vanished. Even in all this bleakness, there are still those who fight on. Those who see the spark of hope in the darkness of apocalypse and remain steadfast. They gather around the few remaining places of relative calm and stability, pockets of normality among the sea of chaos.

But these sanctuaries are not safe either. The crumbling reality affects the survivors, pushing them towards the brink of sanity. Needless violence and fanatical beliefs are a new norm… but the alternative? What happens if you manage to find yourself in the dark, outside of the few safe havens?

The Lost

First, you will most likely lose your way in the never-ending wasteland of bare rock and mist, and that's only if you're lucky enough to not get mauled by a beast. You will slowly but surely forget about your past life, who you were, and who you are. You will become one of the Lost. Your flesh will show the sign of you losing your identity, becoming grey as the mist you wandered for what felt like forever, your face morphing into an unrecognizable blob of hard skin.

Soon enough, living becomes a curse, at which point you’re too far gone to even notice. You wander for years without aging, without dying, without the mercy of an end. Food turns to ash, wounds never close, and pain becomes eternal. As you lose more and more sense of self, your identity erodes and a monster is born.

As time passes you might eventually merge with other beasts roaming the land, forming a mass of mussel and bone, an unholy hybrid of pure horror as you dissolve and become one, or turn into something far worse.

That fate eventually comes for everyone… unless someone finds a way to save this dying world.
