What changed
- Gameplay
I'm going to be away soon, so much of my time has been spent getting ready for that. While that's not left me much time to work on the game, I did get some stuff done.
mug
Hardly the most exciting thing, but I made some mugs.
It's been a long time since I've done any modelling, so getting back into it took longer than I expected. I had more stuff planned, lightswitches for one, but this is all I managed to get done in the time I had available.
I talked last month about how I've got plans for the game, and this is the start of those. I'm going to be making and adding a tonne of new models and assets into the game, as well as updating some of the ones that already exist. Rather than do a tiny update with every new model, I figure I'll keep everything together and drop it all at once.
Now then, you may be wondering why these things weren't in the game in the first place. Was I just being lazy? Actually no. Well a little maybe. But mostly no.
Where's my mug?
Not including mugs and lightswitches in the original game was actually a conscious decision on my part. Basically, I didn't want the player to be trying to interact with things that didn't have any real use. You may ask why I made all the doors, cupboards, drawers, oven, fridge, microwave etc openable, and that's because I felt like it.
For real though, I didn't want to add controllable lights in the game because I wanted it to be dark the entire time. I could have added in the lightswitches, and a throwaway line about the power being out or something (which is kinda my plan going forward), but I thought it'd just be safer to not have them in at all, that way you don't even have to think about it.
Similarly with the mugs, I didn't want people trying to find a way of filling a mug with water when there's a perfectly good bottle in the fridge.
I get why it might seem like I just forgot, but these things actually have a lot of thought put into them, more than you'd expect.
Plug sockets though, those I just didn't think about.
See you next month.
