Samurai Standoff changes
Steam post imageHey everyone! Shy here again — and today is a huge moment for us. After months of prototyping, testing, refining, and watching players clash steel in the playtest… Samurai Standoff is officially launching in Early Access! 🥳
This release means a lot to our tiny team. We’ve poured everything we have into building a tense, timing‑based duel experience, and seeing players connect with it during the playtest gave us the confidence to take the next step.
But we also want to be transparent about why we chose Early Access.
🏯 Why Early Access?
We want Samurai Standoff to become something truly great — and we believe the only way to get there is by building it with you.
Early Access lets us see how players react to the core idea: Does the game resonate? Does it have room to grow? Is there a community forming around it?
If the answer is yes, we’re ready to invest more time, more features, and more depth into the experience. If the reaction is smaller, we’ll still polish the game and bring it to a clean 1.0 — but we’ll keep the scope realistic.
Your engagement genuinely shapes the future of Samurai Standoff.
⚔️ What’s in the game right now?
Everything you need for the core experience is already fully implemented:
Single‑player duels
Multiplayer 1v1 PvP (using Steam's Play Together)
A stable foundation for us to build on
This is the complete base of the game — the part we’re confident in.
🗺️ What’s coming during Early Access?
We’re planning roughly one year of Early Access. During that time, we’ll be expanding the game based on your feedback and the community’s momentum.
Here’s what’s already on our roadmap:
🎴 Story Mode
Travel across stylized feudal lands, choosing your next opponent and encountering reflex‑based mini‑games and unique events. (Yes — still inspired by Taikou Risshiden IV.)
🥷 Expanded Multiplayer
We’re working on several new ways to duel:
Same‑screen standalone duels with controller support
Party mode over the same network
Self‑hosted online 1v1 matches
Additional matchmaking options depending on demand
💬 Community‑Driven Development
Players will be able to:
Suggest new features and balance changes
Participate in open discussions about upcoming updates
Join a closed playtesting group to try new builds early and work closely with us
Your ideas will directly influence what we build next.
