Salvation Denied changes
The Salvation Denied demo has just expanded with a brand-new mission: Shield Breaker. In Signal To Orbit (the first mission), your job was simple enough: build a tower, activate the signal, and try not to watch the whole thing collapse under a meteor shower. This time, things are a little different. You’re not here to build a tower, you’re here to destroy one.
Break Through the Shield
In Shield Breaker, you’ll face a heavily protected defense system built around powerful static fields. Somewhere beyond the barrier, enemy towers are waiting to be brought down. Luckily, you have a cannon that is perfect for the job!
Unluckily, the cannon is not exactly ready to fire, the ammo has not quite arrived…yet.
So before you can start blasting anything, you’ll need to transport massive damper cores (the ammo) across the playing field and load them into the cannon, that is where the real problem begins and the game starts!
The Gravity Gun Won’t Do Everything
Damper cores are not regular construction blocks; they are heavy, awkward, and pretty hard to move using the Gravity Gun beams. All this means that you won't be able to simply pick them up (with the Gravity Gun) and place them wherever you want.
Instead, you’ll need to think a little more carefully.
Bridges and chutes will be extremely valuable.
Leveling your supports will be even more important.
And the impulse pushes will become the main way to move the core, but you'll need to be careful as you won't want to send your precious ammo flying into lava!
Once a damper core is loaded into the cannon, you can fire it at the enemy towers and start tearing down the main barrier.
All in all, there are three towers to destroy so you'll need to make every shot count!
Summary of What’s New
This mission introduces a new type of challenge for the demo, with a stronger focus on transporting heavy objects, building stable routes, and solving problems with momentum and supports.
Shield Breaker includes:
A new playable location with deadly volcanic lava
Suspension construction logic
Character death and respawn mechanics
A full 3D impulse cannon with related interaction mechanics
Explosive core spawning
Core detonation when hitting objects
This is still Salvation Denied, so yes, things will probably fall over. But this time, that might be part of the plan, especially if it's the enemy's tower. Your bridges, on the other hand, you don't want those to fall down!
Update Notes
Alongside the release of Shield Breaker, we’ve also made several gameplay, control, camera, and controller improvements based on your feedback.
Gameplay and Balance
The handheld Gravity Gun’s Gravity beam strength has been increased by 15%
Inertia when moving objects with the Gravity Gun’s primary mode has been reduced.
The Foam Gun’s firing rate has been increased by 300%.
At this point, it should start to feel more like a Foam Machine Gun, but covering objects with foam is now much easier.
The durability of the Foam Gun’s Foam Adhesive has been increased. This means that the connections should survive meteor strikes better.
Increased the speed at which objects can be moved closer or further away while being held by the Gravity Tank’s gravity beam.
Changed object rotation while using the Gravity Beam from a hold action to a toggle.
Camera Controls
The default FOV has been increased from 90 to 100.
We plan to add a dedicated FOV setting in a future update, allowing players to choose whatever value feels most comfortable for them.
Adjusted the first-person camera on the Fatboy vehicle.
Controller Support
Added support for PlayStation controllers and other custom controllers via the Steam Input API.
Updated gamepad button mappings to provide a more comfortable control scheme.
Mission #1 Adjustments
We’ve made several level design adjustments to the first mission. These should help prevent vehicles from getting stuck on rocks and on the terrain.
