Runika: A World of Little Legends changes
Things are getting serious on the road to release. The first of two planned beta testing phases has begun. This update now contains all the essential features. Accordingly, this update really packs a punch, even though the last one was only four months ago. Now I can finally make full use of all the systems I’ve built, and you can see that right away in the huge list of new features.
This is therefore not a regular update; instead, you can switch to the beta version yourself to see and test the new features in advance!
Over the coming months I’ll be working on finishing the story and some smaller items on my list.
The Beta #2 testing phase will already include the full game and allow me to put everything through its paces and make final improvements.
Have fun exploring!
WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
Architecture
With the new architecture system, you can now build various houses and statues. At the architecture table, you can create blueprints and then store them in your architecture book. After placing a foundation, you can put the required resources into it and, with a hammer and some food, begin construction. Construction can be paused and resumed at any time.
Demolition
Of course, you can tear everything back down again! You’ll get all resources back, but not the durability lost on your hammers nor the food consumed.
Bridges
You can now build wooden bridges over bodies of water to access areas more easily without having to fill in rivers. However, note that intersections can only be created on every second bridge tile!
Wooden Steps
With wooden steps you can now climb hills significantly faster.
Biome Grading
Biomes now feature different color grading and, in some cases, additional effects such as god rays, fog, or dust clouds. Forest biomes are detected dynamically for biome grading, independent of the technical biome. So if, for example, you plant many fir trees, you can create a “Dark Forest” effect anywhere.
Wave Effect
Joining the many small landscape improvements there are finally movement waves on the water.
The Three Watchtowers
Wealdheim now has three damaged watchtowers that you can rebuild. With the full release and in addition to the in-game reward there will be an achievement for this.
Ansen’s Anvil
Together with the towers, you can now also rebuild the forge. Afterwards, you can sell your smithing goods to Ana or also buy some from her.
House Upgrade
At the carpentry, you can now have your farmhouse expanded. Your furniture will all remain, but afterwards you’ll have much more space on the ground floor. A small attic and a basement are also added!
Adventurers’ Guild
You can now help with the reconstruction here as well! By expanding the upper floor of the Adventurers’ Guild, guild tasks become available to you. Bring the requested items to receive guild tokens. You can then exchange these for various useful items ~ rumor has it a maid dress is also available! :3
Library
In the library you can not only purchase writing supplies, but also read through some interesting hints and explanations at your leisure.
Overlay Map
The new transparent overlay map not only shows various useful locations, but also the next step in the main story and all activated Danu statues. This map replaces the previous mini-map, which was only a stopgap for orientation shortly after the Early Access launch.
