Royal's Gambit changes
Royal’s Gambit – Patch Notes v0.5.2
This is a major update packed with long-awaited features, reward reworks, and important fixes. Let’s dive into what’s new!
📝 NEW FEATURES
• Tooltips Added
Cards now display tooltips with helpful information to improve decision-making during gameplay: Number Cards / Rewards – Show what effect the card will have when played (damage, combo effects, point gains, etc.). Royal Cards – Display potential point values based on how the card is defeated (exact vs. overkill). More tooltip types are planned for future updates, including explanations for chapter mechanics and game modes.
• Deck View
On the reward screen, you can now view your current deck by clicking the deck or pressing the Right Stick on your controller. No more guessing or trying to remember your build—track your journey with ease.
• Reward Shaders
Reward cards now feature distinct shader effects for added visual flair. This helps differentiate new card types and adds style to your choices.
• New Settings Options
We’ve expanded the options menu with several highly requested features: Sound Effects Volume – Adjust SFX volume independently. Toggle Damage Display – Show or hide the total damage value for added challenge. Great for educational use—encouraging mental math! Music Playlist Mode – Instead of looping one song per stage, playlist mode cycles through the chapter’s full soundtrack. (Note: not available in Survival Mode due to current music handling.)
🎁 REWARDS OVERHAUL
This update brings three brand-new reward types, adding 108 new cards total. Here’s what’s new:
Point Cards Earn points equal to the card’s number when played—amplified by your current combo. For example, a 9 Point Card played at a 3x combo deals 9 damage and earns 27 points.
Number Combo Cards Instantly boost your combo by the value of the card. These are perfect for recovering from a drop or stacking big bonuses. Wild Cards Playable against any Royal suit. Simple. Versatile. Deadly.
- UpdatedX2 / X3 Cards → Point Multiplier Cards Damage multiplier cards have been reworked. Instead of boosting raw damage (which rarely aligned with the exact-kill system), these now multiply the points earned from a kill: Use a x2 or x3 card on a killing blow to multiply the total score after combo and exact kill bonuses are calculated. This makes them a powerful tool for high-score strategies.
Overall, these new and reworked rewards provide more meaningful choices and better synergy with different game modes.
🐛 BUG FIXES
General Fixes:
Fixed a bug where the game would end with a "no moves" message even after defeating the objective Royal.
Fixed false-positive 'no moves remaining' detection logic.
Score formatting added to High Score display on the main menu.
Fixed an issue where the stage timer would shrink while score points were floating.
Fixed main menu score display not updating when switching chapters or game modes.
Fixed a controller navigation bug on the main menu that caused erratic highlight behavior.
Fixed an issue where multiple cards would discard unintentionally when using a controller.
Players can no longer play cards after the stage-ending card has been destroyed.
Fixed a bug allowing card selection while paused using the controller’s A button.
You can now skip the victory/credits screen using Start or B on the controller.
This is one of our most substantial updates yet—improving usability, strategy, and presentation across the board. Thank you for playing and keep sending your feedback!
