[Devlog #1]

What Kind of Game Are We Building With Reloadian?

Hello everyone, We’re the team behind Reloadian.

For our first devlog, we wanted to briefly share what direction we’re aiming for, and what this demo represents in our journey.

Reloadian is designed to be fun solo—but even better with friends. We want it to feel great on a controller, easy to pick up quickly, and rewarding whether you play at your own pace alone or coordinate and create synergy as a team.

The Core Idea

At its heart, Reloadian is about the thrill of taking on missions and breaking through combat encounters. When we first started development, we were strongly inspired by the feeling of co-op hack-and-slash and MORPG raid-style games—moving together, pushing through challenges, and completing objectives as a squad.

As development continued, we played a lot of games that blend platforming and roguelike elements, and we realized we were more drawn to a structure where you build differently each run rather than permanently scaling up like a traditional RPG. That led us to shape Reloadian into a platformer-based action roguelike, where each run offers new choices, new builds, and new outcomes—especially when shared with friends.

Our Gameplay Direction

Here’s what we’re aiming for in terms of feel and flow:

  • Controller-first controls that are easy to learn

  • A fast, punchy action tempo with strong rhythm and impact

  • Combat that changes based on your choices and build each run

  • A chapter-based structure where the experience is driven by missions, not repetition

You’ll explore different worlds through individual missions, while still following a larger story arc across chapters.

Setting, Inspirations, and Chapters

Reloadian draws a lot of inspiration from 80s–90s Japanese sci-fi anime (like Battle Angel Alita and Akira) and the broader space opera tradition (like Star Trek and Star Wars).

Our goal is for each chapter to have:

  • its own distinct planet and atmosphere

  • enemies shaped by unique values and narratives

  • conflicts that could only happen in that particular world

We want every chapter to feel like a new place with a new kind of story.

Chapter 1: “Mortalist”

Our goal is to complete Chapter 1, “Mortalist,” in 2026.

In this chapter, you’ll encounter:

  • Reloadian pilots who achieved digital immortality by uploading their minds

  • the Mortalist faction, who value finite human experiences like sensation, love, and fear

  • and the secrets behind the Neuroforge collective

As you uncover these mysteries, you’ll gradually learn the origins of the Reloadians and the foundation of the world itself.

This story unfolds through missions across multiple planets—so you’re not just watching the narrative, you’re actively “running the operation” as you progress.

About This Demo

This demo is the first step of that journey. It’s meant to give you an early taste of Reloadian’s direction—its action feel, build variety, and how it plays both solo and with friends.

We’re also preparing additional modes where you can battle your friends using the weapons you earn through missions.

We’ll continue sharing our progress through devlogs. If you try the demo, we’d love to hear what you think— what felt good, what felt unclear, and what you want to see next.

Thank you, — The Reloadian Team
