changedWHAT DOES MEDIEVALPUNK SOUND LIKE?Reignbreaker is medievalpunk game. Yes, we made up this word, but we like it because it captures the wild mashup of aesthetics and influences that feed into the game. That extends from the gameplay to the art to our focus today: sound design. "It was quite a process to find the right balance of punch, punk, and medieval soundscapes to represent the game’s anti-establishment direction,” says Markus Zierhofer of AudioCreatures, who created the audio for Reignbreaker. “Shaping the audio landscape, our entire team contributed to the audio direction, sound design, and music — destroying and recording countless guitars, and experimenting with various sounds through re-sampling and re-amping techniques to bring the world to life.”
addedWHAT DOES MEDIEVALPUNK SOUND LIKE?AudioCreatures used both modern and medieval instruments to match the anachronistic influences of Reignbreaker, while also setting the mood: “We kept the music punchy while also adding melodic sequences in the combat music, which are tailored to match the enemies you’re fighting to create a cohesive and immersive game world”

DEVSTREAM TODAY!

First things first: don’t miss our final pre-launch devstream TODAY, March 12, at 15:00 CET with one of our audio designers, who will be chatting about how his team crafted the unique medievalpunk soundscape of Reigbnreaker. Follow us on Twitch and don’t miss it!

WHAT DOES MEDIEVALPUNK SOUND LIKE?

Reignbreaker is medievalpunk game.

AudioCreatures used both modern and medieval instruments to match the anachronistic influences of Reignbreaker, while also setting the mood: “We kept the music punchy while also adding melodic sequences in the combat music, which are tailored to match the enemies you’re fighting to create a cohesive and immersive game world”

The Reignbreaker title track can be heard in the main menu — play the demo to listen now!

GETTING THE BAND TOGETHER

But the game still needed a punk rock anthem to get players in the mood to fight: “From the start, we really wanted to collaborate with an established punk band or artist,” says Markus, “and we were thrilled to arrange an extremely cool partnership for the game's title track. We're officially announcing and releasing the track onto streaming platforms on March 14 — but if you've played the demo and done some digging you probably who it is already. We're super pleased with the result, which is not only a perfect match for the game but also an absolute banger on its own!"

WEAPON SPOTLIGHT: BLAST

Finally, let's highlight the final and most chaotic Javelin bayonet in our series: the Blast Javelin. Basically, it makes your weapon explode on impact. This does a lot of damage to enemies, but it can damage you as well. Therefore it carries a very high risk of injury, but it’s (almost) always worth it.

Keep your distance while blasting enemy groups with the Throw:

The Strike is a dive attack that plants a bomb, which goes off after a short time:

And the Slam explodes right where you're standing — so make sure to dash away ASAP:

LAUNCHING NEXT TUESDAY

Hey, so this is crazy, but we’re launching the game in less than a week. Please check out our demo if you haven’t yet, tell your friends, and tune in to our Twitch channel later today for our last pre-launch devstream!
