addedWelcome Back, Hackers!Today, we're thrilled to announce that development is back in full swing! In this dev log, we will explain where we’ve been, unveil a major graphics overhaul led by our artist Kamuii, introduce new gameplay features, and share our exciting plans moving forward. Let’s hack into it!
addedAddressing the SilenceThe past year has been challenging. As a small indie team, balancing Rapta , a full-time work schedule and personal matters, forced a unwanted temporary pause in development. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it wasn’t wasted time either. We used this period to prototype new mechanics, rework some stuff and balance some of the content in the game. The result? A sharper vision for Rapta , with a revamped art style, deeper storyline, and refined challenges that elevate the tense, replayable experience we envisioned. We’re back, more focused than ever, with the next Early Access build rolling out in just a few weeks.

Addressing the Silence

The past year has been challenging. As a small indie team, balancing Rapta, a full-time work schedule and personal matters, forced a unwanted temporary pause in development. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it wasn’t wasted time either. We used this period to prototype new mechanics, rework some stuff and balance some of the content in the game. The result? We’re back, more focused than ever, with the next Early Access build rolling out in just a few weeks.

Thank you for sticking with us—now, let’s dive into what’s new!

What’s New in Rapta?

The upcoming Early Access build (coming soon to Steam) is packed with updates shaped by our renewed vision. Here’s a detailed look at what’s changed:

Graphics Overhaul: A Sharper Pixel Art Vision

Rapta’s signature 2-color pixel art defines its soul, but we noted it could feel visually strained sometimes. Thanks to the incredible work of our artist, Kamuii, we’ve overhauled key art assets to bring a crisper, more detailed aesthetic while preserving the retro hacking vibe:

  • Enhanced Visual Detail: The main background has been completely redesigned with intricate details—like sharper textures and dynamic shading—making it pop on-screen.

  • Improved Readability: We’ve refined the 2-color palette with better contrast ratios for terminals and phone interfaces, reducing eye strain during fast-paced challenges.

  • Color CustomizationA new customization menu lets you choose base/accent color pairs (e.g., neon green/black, blue/white) to tailor the game’s look to your taste. Steam post image
  • Room improvementsOur main protagonist’s room has been renewed, with some new visual details and some ambient sounds to make it more alive Steam post image

This overhaul enhances immersion and accessibility without sacrificing Rapta’s minimalist charm.

Gameplay Upgrades: Revamped Challenges and Skill Tree

We’ve reworked core elements to enhance replayability and depth:

  • Tweaked Challenges: Several challenges and missions have been refined to feel more responsive and engaging, tightening the time-pressure stakes that define Rapta ’s gameplay. Expect smoother controls and more intuitive puzzles.

  • Reworked Skill TreeThe skill tree has been redesigned to align with our new vision, offering more strategic options for upgrades.

These updates make every playthrough feel fresh and impactful, encouraging you to experiment with new strategies.

Additional Updates in Progress

We’re also working on several exciting additions to polish Rapta further:

  • New Dialogue: We’re adding deeper, branching dialogue to enrich the storyline. This expands the narrative, giving you more ways to interact with characters and influence the six endings, like choosing how to approach your sister’s rescue.

  • New SoundFX: Fresh sound effects are being crafted to enhance immersion. These replace older audio to match the game’s high-stakes atmosphere.

  • New Soundtracks: Custom soundtracks custom made just for our game

  • New Transitions and AnimationsWe’re introducing smoother transitions (e.g., seamless screen changes) and new animations to improve fluidity and make navigation more engaging.
  • New AchievementsFor achievement hunters, we’re developing new Steam Achievements tied to completing endings and mastering challenges. These reward replayability and skill, perfect for those who love a challenge runs.
  • Balancing and QoL Changes: We’re fine-tuning difficulty (e.g., adjusting mission pacing) and adding quality-of-life features like clearer UI prompts to streamline the experience.

  • Steam Store Page Rework: The Steam store page is getting a refresh with updated visuals and a clearer description to better showcase Rapta ’s unique vibe.

  • New Studio LogoOur studio is getting a bold new logo to reflect our growth, appearing in-game and across our materials.
  • New Website: We’re building a dedicated Rapta website for news, dev logs, some extra stuff and a feedback hub to make it easier to share our thoughts.

These additions aim to make Rapta more polished and immersive.
