Pronoun Palace changes
Oh boy.
RENREN here. Most of you know me from here and there, and what have you. I've been much more quiet recently on the social front, but I can assure you that I've been experimenting.
Enough chat, listen to this while you read. (Cadence here: apparently Steam pauses the video when you scroll?? So just pop it open in another tab.)
The way music is handled in this game is pretty simple. Each song is assigned to a set of three enemies. The song plays out, and loops on the more calmer end section of the song. Boss themes do not follow this, and just loop. This song is set to Prodigy, New Cop, and Age Regressor. You saw some of the conceptualization of New Cop last post. These enemies are end game stuff and can be very scary to deal with. Or unique to work around.
This is Prodigy, what’s up Prodigy. Prodigy has one very simple gimmick that drives me up the wall, and those are Mystery tiles. You’re encouraged to spell multiple words with these tiles in a single turn to figure out what the tile letter could be. I was lucky enough on this board to have a few plastic tiles but sometimes if your items don’t accommodate for defense you’ll be stuck solving the most quizzical of puzzles. I’m really upset I couldn’t play chode. I get more fun out of this game when I spell stupid stuff than practical stuff, it’s the little things for me.
Here’s a random snippet of a bunch of songs. https://soundcloud.com/mistajub/pronoun-palace-music-teaser
I use soundfonts in my more well known work, but I absolutely love plundering samples and doing stuff. When I was small RENREN years back I remember seeing Daft Punk’s Robot Rock music video and thought that was the coolest shit ever in the whole wide world. It then spiraled into searching “howw do I make this kind of sound” and then further into plundering and jazz and hip hop and fusion and what have you. I pay less attention to genre than most people do. It is funny to say this but as I’m writing this some of the music is definitely a bit aggressive for a puzzle game but I find it charming.
I wasn’t expecting to be writing about this but I thought it would be funny to comment based on the last blog post. Before Pronoun Palace was conceived, there was that visual novel idea. Cadence asked to borrow some music from Excelsior, my Isaac music mod, as placeholder music. She also asked me to remind her to get it finished. Guess who forgot to remind herrrrrrrrrrr WHOOPS! Everyone’s making a video game nowadays and it’s more fun to do it as a team and I do love the unique vision each person has when it comes to it.
Here’s another track that’s been revealed already because Cadence switched a value to 1000 for fun: https://twitter.com/ciirulean/status/1997837047370060213
This is a shorter blogpost, but I hope I’ve given you enough to chew on audiowise. Next post will be about enemy champions! See you there!
