changedKnown Issues (and Workarounds)Selecting “Continue” (or pressing “B/X” on the Main Menu) causes a crash. Not entirely sure why this is happening, but it has only presented itself in situations where there is no existing save data.
changedKnown Issues (and Workarounds)Quitting via Steam UI or “alt+F4” doesn’t quit the game. This appears to be related to how the Windows version has been created. We recommend quitting using the very pretty “QUIT GAME” button in the upper-left corner of the screen, this won’t always work either, but we’ve found it to work more consistently. On PC, you can use your mouse to click it and exit that way. On Steamdeck, touch the “Quit Game” button with your finger, or use the right analog stick (or trackpad) to navigate the Steam OS’s cursor to the button and right trigger to click it.
changedPlaying on SteamdeckFirst and foremost - you’re going to need to use a custom input mapping. There’s a community layout I’ve uploaded (look for “POCKET MYSTERY EP DX for Steamdeck”) that lets you seamlessly play the game on Steamdeck with no issues. If you want to use your own however, it will need to map to keyboard controls. For some reason, gamepad based input maps will not work.
changedPlaying on SteamdeckSimilarly, I have made a gamepad map if you’re playing docked or just connecting an external controller. Look for “POCKET MYSTERY EP DX Gamepad Layout” in the Community Layouts section.

Known Issues (and Workarounds)

  • Selecting “Continue” (or pressing “B/X” on the Main Menu) causes a crash. Not entirely sure why this is happening, but it has only presented itself in situations where there is no existing save data.

  • Quitting via Steam UI or “alt+F4” doesn’t quit the game. This appears to be related to how the Windows version has been created. We recommend quitting using the very pretty “QUIT GAME” button in the upper-left corner of the screen, this won’t always work either, but we’ve found it to work more consistently. Playing on Steamdeck

While POCKET MYSTERY EP DX may not be officially listed as “Verified” or “Playable” on Steam Deck, it will work, with some caveats.

First and foremost - you’re going to need to use a custom input mapping.

Similarly, I have made a gamepad map if you’re playing docked or just connecting an external controller. Look for “POCKET MYSTERY EP DX Gamepad Layout” in the Community Layouts section.

Accessing the GameBoy Version

This Steam release includes the GameBoy ROMs for both the original POCKET MYSTERY EP released last year as well as the DX version playable on Windows.

To access them, do the following:

  • From your Steam library, find POCKET MYSTERY EP DX

  • Right click on the game in your library and select “Manage > Browse Local Files”

  • Windows Explorer will open the folder containing POCKET MYSTERY EP DX, navigate from here to “GB Roms”. The “.gb” file is the original POCKET MYSTERY EP release for GameBoy. The “.gbc” file is the POCKET MYSTERY EP DX for GameBoy Color.

  • You will need to use the rom files with whatever cart loading solution you have to load them onto a flash cart. Not sure how? There are lots of resources on Google that can point you in the right direction.
