changedThe Plush Rangers Demo has just received a big update changing the gameplay significantly. The updates introduce more structure to leveling up both the player and the enemies that are set to challenge you.
changedPlushies Power Up FasterWe moved away from random level-ups to a structured format. This means that the first level up for each Plushie will be the same each time you play. While this reduces some randomness it means we can make sure that each level-up is properly impactful and makes a difference in gaining strength against the waves of enemies.
addedAdding Plushies Can Happen on Any LevelInstead of set level up where Plushies can be added, we now will potentially show Plushies on any level up as long as there are slots available. Currently you start with 5 slots (though subject to change for balance). We will have items and other upgrades available for increasing the number of Plushies on the team.
changedLevels Are More StructuredPreviously waves were generated and timed at various points. This allowed a lot of variety to the levels, but it also made them feel more sloppy. Now the levels will have great control and intentional structure. Enemies also level up per wave, allowing more control and balance against the enemies.
changedEverything is a FasterWe sped up the character to make movement more satisfying. As a side effect we needed to increase the speed of the enemies some to compensate. This lets the game have a bit more flow to it.
changedShoppingThe shop showed up after every level up, allowing you to get more items on a regular basis, however you could only buy one item at a time. We have changed this so that Bean the Crow’s shop will show up on the map, and you can choose when to shop and purchase as much as you want. Each time you shop, Bean needs to leave to restock the shop and there will be a delay until you can shop again.

Plushies Power Up Faster

We moved away from random level-ups to a structured format. This means that the first level up for each Plushie will be the same each time you play. While this reduces some randomness it means we can make sure that each level-up is properly impactful and makes a difference in gaining strength against the waves of enemies.

This will allow Plushies like Spike to have many projectiles, while area effect Plushies will see their size level up much more quickly.

Adding Plushies Can Happen on Any Level

Instead of set level up where Plushies can be added, we now will potentially show Plushies on any level up as long as there are slots available. Currently you start with 5 slots (though subject to change for balance). We will have items and other upgrades available for increasing the number of Plushies on the team.

Levels Are More Structured

Previously waves were generated and timed at various points. This allowed a lot of variety to the levels, but it also made them feel more sloppy. Now the levels will have great control and intentional structure. Enemies also level up per wave, allowing more control and balance against the enemies.

Everything is a Faster

We sped up the character to make movement more satisfying. As a side effect we needed to increase the speed of the enemies some to compensate. This lets the game have a bit more flow to it.

Shopping

The shop showed up after every level up, allowing you to get more items on a regular basis, however you could only buy one item at a time. We have changed this so that Bean the Crow’s shop will show up on the map, and you can choose when to shop and purchase as much as you want. Each time you shop, Bean needs to leave to restock the shop and there will be a delay until you can shop again.

What’s Next?

  • Danger Levels - We are building out more difficulty levels. These will add additional enemies and waves to previously beaten levels allowing for more fun and replayability.

  • Relic Improvements - Currently the relics (Bowling Ball, Dynamite, Whip, etc…) have fallen behind on the damage curve. We are going to introduce some changes to let these feel more impactful and provide better build synergy

  • More varied items - Currently the items in the shop are a little underwhelming. We are going to be balancing the items to provide greater bonuses stacked with some minuses to allow for more choice and varied approach to shopping.

  • More Map Events - The pillars and pinatas are fun, but we want more variety of challenges to show up. There will be some additional challenges coming to make the levels a bit more interesting.
